The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) strongly appeals to all liquor license holders throughout the country to observe the liquor ban declared from 16 – 26 April 2024 to coincide with the Joint Election 2024 next week.

The Liquor Ban Order has been issued by the Caretaker Minister of Home Affairs Christopher Laore under section 82(1) of the Liquor Act (Cap. 144). The Order has already been gazetted.

The Liquor Ban Order says, “I, Hon. Christopher Laore, Minister for Home Affairs, under section 82(1) of the Liquor Act (Cap. 144), direct that on 16 April 2024 to 26 April 2024.

The order state that all licensed premises and all bars including night clubs and bottle shops in Solomon Islands to be closed; and no liquor is to be sold on such premises, bars including night clubs and bottle shops, except licensed premises or bars licensed to sell liquor that are located within a hotel or restaurant may sell liquor to a bona fide guest.

“The RSIPF acknowledges the liquor ban declared by the Minister of Home Affairs and will do everything within its capability to ensure all liquor license holders adhere to the Order,” says RSIPF Commissioner Mostyn Mangau.

Commissioner Mangau adds: “I want to appeal to all liquor license holders to observe this Order as the police will not tolerate any one who does not follow it.”

Mr. Mangau says, “The anti-social behavior caused by the irresponsible consumption of alcohol within our communities has caused so much trouble to the lives of the people in this country.

The Liquor Ban declared will help towards ensuring a safe and secure joint elections next week,” Commissioner Mangau emphasizes.
