Police have today welcomed the community support for the continued voluntary surrender of stolen property from the Honiara riots.

This follows significant amounts of stolen property surrendered or seized under warrant in greater Honiara over the past week.

Commissioner Mr Mostyn Mangau described recent police operations as an excellent example of cooperation and trust between the Solomons’ International Assistance Force (SIAF) contingents and the wider community.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Noro, Western Province, have saved a Telekom company building that was on fire on 7 December 2021.

Officer Commanding Station (OCS) in Noro, Inspector Robert Hickie said that report from Telekom Technicians discovered that a server room located inside the main commercial office was on fire.

“It was suspected that a battery terminal box was faulty and friction had ignited the fire,” Inspector Hickie said.

Police stations at Naha and Kukum remain closed to residents as a result of the recent social unrest.

Communities from these areas who need to access police services are advised to attend Central Police Station until further notice.

Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central police station, Superintendent Jimson Robo said these affected communities should use Central Police Station to access police services until normal operations are restored at Naha and Kukum police stations.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is appealing to all business owners affected by the protests, rioting, burning and looting of shops to formally lodge their details with police to assist with the ongoing police investigation.

RSIPF Commissioner Mostyn Mangau said: “My officers are recovering a large amount of stolen property from various locations in Honiara, as well as making arrests of those involved in the recent civil unrest.”

An overnight curfew has been declared by the Governor-General of Solomon Islands, His Excellency, David Vunagi to all sea travellers entering and departing the Port of Honiara effective from 7pm today (8 December 2021).

His Excellency has signed a new Declaration under the Preservation of Public Security Act. These regulations amend the Preservation of Public Security (No.2) Regulations 2021 (LN 334 of 2021), which comes into force today.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) commends the community for the good behaviour shown during the Motion of no Confidence against the Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare yesterday, (6 December 2021) with no reported disturbances in Honiara.

“I would like to thank members of the public for their positive behaviour during the Motion of No Confidence,” Commissioner of RSIPF Mr. Mostyn Mangau said.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) appeals to members of the public throughout the country to think safety first during the current bad weather.

The call is being made as the country continues to experience heavy rain.

Commissioner of Police, Mostyn Mangau says, “Boats and vessel owners are urged to think safety first before embarking on any trip at sea during the current bad weather. Check the weather by listening to the SIBC and other radio stations or call the Met service and get the right advice before travelling at sea.”

A joint operation between Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) and Australian Federal Police (AFP) executed a search warrant and confiscated alleged looted items buried behind Panatina village yesterday (5 December 2021).

The joint operation was initiated to target offenders alleged to be involved in the looting and theft of machinery and tools from hardware stores in the Ranadi industrial and commercial district.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) wishes to advise the general public in Honiara City and Guadalcanal Province, that the Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Christopher Laore has signed a liquor ban order to be enforced from 6 – 7 December 2021.

The Liquor Ban Order (N0.309) 2021, was signed on 4 December 2021 by the Minister for Home Affairs, and is made under section 82 (1) of the Liquor Act (cap 144).

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) warns social media users especially on Facebook to be mindful with what they are posting regarding the recent riot.

Commissioner of Police, Mostyn Mangau says, “Some people are posting provoking statements that might cause hatred and anxiety among the communities. Police will not hesitate to arrest anyone who posts inflammatory comments that are likely to exacerbate the current situation.”

Commissioner Mangau says, “There was a post made on the social media that every Malaitans is on the list for arrest.
