The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is appealing to the public to stay away from and out of Chinatown and other burnt down infrastructure in the Ranadi area.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ms Juanita Matanga said this would help so that important forensic police work could take place, and a clean-up of the affected areas, which are contaminated with hazardous materials, could to commence safely.

DC Matanga said citizens should avoid these areas if they have no reason to be in the area due to risks to public health and safety.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) commend communities of west Honiara and Kakabona area for the great support rendered during the unrest faced in Honiara last week.

Commissioner Mr. Mostyn Mangau said: “I appreciate those who have shown support especially in Honiara, for working together with police officers protecting other parts of our town during the riot and looting.”

The curfew that was enforced by the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF), which the Governor-General of Solomon Islands, His Excellency, has signed into effect a Declaration under the Preservation of Public Security Act and subsequent Regulations giving effect to the Declaration, also applies to all sea travellers who come in and out of Point Cruz Harbor.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have arrested more than hundred suspects in relation to the current protest, riot and looting in Honiara.

Commissioner Mr Mostyn Mangau says, “I must make it very clear here that No one is above the law. We are expected to live and make decisions within the principles of the rule of law regardless of our positions in our society. I therefore forewarned that if anybody is found in breach of such illegal activities, Police will not hesitate to arrest and deal with him/her.”

The Governor-General of Solomon Islands, His Excellency has signed into effect a Declaration under the Preservation of Public Security Act and subsequent Regulations giving effect to the Declaration.

The Preservation of Public Security (No.2) Regulations 2021 (LN 334 of 2021) comes into force today and effectively declares a curfew in Honiara commencing today from 26th November 2021 from 7pm until 6am every day until revoked by the Governor-General.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF would like to clarify rumours and speculation that three suspects arrested by police at Burns Creek area were brutally killed to death.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ms Juanita Matanga says, “This is false and wrong information that we should not speculate about. Do not try to use such information to gain people’s attention to do more bad activities against the police.”

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) strongly appeals to the citizens of Honiara to make the right choice by refraining themselves from looting and burning of valuable infrastructures.

“I am very concerned about the current unrest as innocent people have been badly affected by such criminal acts. Obviously we do not want to see any of this happen and we want to make sure that our streets, schools and that our businesses remain open,” Commissioner Mangau emphasises.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) allow small canteens to operate outside of main Honiara central business district (CBD) to provide services until 6pm this evening.

Mr Mostyn Mangau says, “Though the lockdown was announced yesterday by Honorable Prime Minister Sogavare for Honiara boundaries our canteens can open until 6pm to support communities during this few hours of lockdown.”
