The dead body of a 25-year-old male person discovered floating at sea in the Kokosu area of Noro Township, Western Province yesterday morning (2 February 2021) has been buried after relatives identified the body.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province, Inspector Wilken Miriki says, “The deceased was from Malaita Province and lived with her mother at Belama Village at Kohigo Island near Noro.”

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) re-emphasises to the public the need to think safety first as parts of the country experience the effects of tropical cyclone (TC) Lucas.

TC Lucas is moving east at 20 knots towards the southern waters of Rennell and Bellona Province, southern waters of Western, Russell Islands, Guadalcanal and Makira Provinces and is strengthening. The country continues to experience heavy rain and strong winds due to Lucas.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) reminds members of the public about the formal ways to lodge complaints through making formal statements and not through just talking directly to any officer or to the office of the provincial police commanders in the provinces.

This follows a complaint in the media from a member of the public that the officers at the Auki Police Station in Malaita Province have failed to attend to a report of malicious damage, brewing of kwaso and a group of people causing threat to some members of the communities in East Kwaio.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Auki, Malaita Province have arrested a 40-year-old husband from Aefa’ai Village in North Malaita after striking the forehead of his 30-year-old wife on 13 January 2021.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Inspector Michael Ramosaea says, “It is alleged that the suspect grabbed her wife’s hair and started punching her face repeatedly. He kicked her lower abdominal, took a piece of firewood and struck her forehead wounding her.”

The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) reminds members of the public to take extra precautionary measures during the bad weather currently experienced throughout the country.

RSIPF Commissioner Mostyn Mangau says, “Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters. Avoid camping or parking along streams, rivers, and creeks during heavy rainfall. These areas can flood quickly and with little warning.”

“If there is a chance of flash flooding, move immediately to higher grounds. Flash floods can cause weather-related deaths.”

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Auki police station in Malaita province have participated in the launching of Atori and Fouou by-law in East Kwara’ ae on 21 January 2021.

The event was successfully implemented through consultations with the Crime prevention unit at Auki police station and other legal authority.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Naha Police Station in East Honiara are investigating an infanticide incident that occurred at the Solomon Islands National University (SINU) Panatina campus on 24 January 2021.

According to an initial report, the body of the infant boy was found in a nearby bush close to the main road at the Panatina campus of SINU. It was covered with a piece of roofing iron and a stone when discovered.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have arrested another suspect in relation to the Winwin Gold Mining Company robbery incident that happened on 9 December 2020 in Central Guadalcanal.

The 34-year-old male suspect was arrested at his home village of Ngalifasi in North Malaita yesterday (24 January 2021) and flown to Honiara on a helicopter. He is now in custody at the Henderson Police Station.
