Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Traffic Department have arrested and charged 27 accused for various traffic offences in Honiara for the period 20 to 26 September 2019.

Ten people were arrested for careless driving, eight arrested for presence of alcohol in a person’s blood, five for unlicensed motor vehicle, three for driving without a valid driving license and one for permitting unlicensed vehicle
The arrests came about after officers conducted random checks in front of the Kukum Police Station road.

Five accused persons have been convicted during a Court Circuit between 25 and 29 September 2019 in Central Province for different crimes committed.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Inspector Hugo Maelasi says, “During the court circuit three of the accused were convicted while eight of them were remanded at Rove Correctional Services Solomon Islands (CSSI) waiting for sentencing on 4 October 2019 at the Honiara Central Magistrates’ Court.”

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) are investigating a death incident at Vatubulu Primary School in East Central Guadalcanal on 28 September 2019.

Police Criminal Investigating Officer (PCIO) Guadalcanal Province, Inspector Hughes Nevol says, “On the night of Saturday 28 September 2019, the complainant, deceased and other two boys were consuming alcohol. According to information received, the deceased and the other boys went to smoke close to a sloppy area side about ten meters high when all of a sudden the deceased fell onto the sloppy area.”

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Western Province have arrested and charged a 47-year-old male on an allegation of brewing kwaso at the Waste Water settlement in Noro on 29 September 2019.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu says, “A raid was conducted at the location after it was reported that the accused was cooking kwaso. Cooking apparatus and other utensils used were confiscated and taken as exhibits including 20 litres of distilled kwaso.”

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Western Province have arrested and charged three boys at Kindu, Munda for possession of dangerous drugs on 29 September 2019.

The suspects are aged 18, 23 and 25 years old.

Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Munda Police Station, Sergeant Rachel Lilo says, “Police made the arrest and laid the charges after members of the community reported that there were some young people selling marijuana in their community.”

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Munda Western Province have arrested and charged seven accused for attacking a male person and his son at Kokeqolo on 28 September 2019.

The incident occurred after it was alleged that the victim’s daughter swore at one of the suspect’s niece at a school.

Officer Commanding Station (OCS), Munda Police Station, Sergeant Rachel Lilo says, “It is alleged that in the early hours of 28 September 2019, the victim was asleep in his home when a group of people arrived in two vehicles at the victim’s residence.”

Young people in Honiara and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have discussed how to work more closely together as partners to ensure the youth have a safe future.

This came during a Youth Forum coordinated by the RSIPF at the Multi-purpose Hall at Lawson Tama in Central Honiara today (30 September 2019). It was attended by about 100 youth from across Honiara and senior officers of the RSIPF.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have farewelled Ms Toni Christmas, a Solomon Islands Police Development Program (SIPDP) advisor to the National Criminal Investigation Department at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara on 26 September 2019.
A farewell morning tea was organised with the presentation of certificate of appreciation and an RSIPF International Law Enforcement Cooperation Medal to Ms Christmas by the Commissioner of Police, Matthew Varley.
