The new Minister of Police, National Security and Correctional Services, Hon. Lanelle Tanangada congratulates the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and the Correctional Services of Solomon Islands (CSSI) for saving a lot of lives and properties during the recent disturbances in Honiara following the election of the Prime Minister on 24 April 2019.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force today (7 May 2019) received a commendation letter from the Solomon Islands Chinese Association (SICA) and a plaque thanking the RSIPF for the exceptional service in April 2019.

The plaque which reads, ‘To the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) In Recognition of Exceptional Leadership and Dedicated Service To the Chinese Community April 2019, Thank You from Solomon Islands Chinese Association.’ It was received by Commissioner Matthew Varley and Deputy Commissioner, Gabriel Manelusi at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara.

More than one hundred people in East Mbaelelea in North Malaita, Malaita Province teamed up with the officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in a campaign against brewing of kwaso on 6 May 2019.

The National Crime Prevention Department (NCPD) of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) visited communities and schools in and around Honiara City and parts of Guadalcanal Province last week as part of the reassurance of normalcy after the disturbance following the election of the Prime Minister Election on 24 April 2019.

During the visits officers of NCPD reassured the communities and schools in Honiara and parts of Guadalcanal that the situation after the election of Prime Minister is now back to normal and the public should continue business as normal.

Police at Malu’u, North Malaita, Malaita Province have welcomed the assurance of chiefs in the Lau Baelelea constituency for the support towards curbing the current rise in kwaso and marijuana incidences in the area.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Malaita Province, Superintendent Solomon Sisimia says, “Few weeks ago Police in Malu’u raided a kwaso distillation in the Malu’u area with the help of the chiefs and elders there. Seeing the successful outcome, the chiefs saw it as a fine example that they wish to adopt.”

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) are investigating the death of two people in separate incidents in Honiara over the weekend.

RSIPF Assistant Commissioner (AC) Crime and Intelligence, Ian Vaevaso says, “Our Police Operation Centre received two reports on the deaths during the weekend.”

AC Vaevaso explains: “One death was in the Point Cruz area during which a 60-year-old man allegedly bumped onto rocky grounds and died on the scene. Relatives of the deceased are so far satisfied with the cause of death.”

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have arrested and charged a 38 year-old Male for allegedly selling beer at the booth of his vehicle in Honiara on 4 May 2019.

The accused was using his car to sell his beer illegally. Operational duty officers were patrolling Honiara City when they came across this vehicle which was parked at Fox Street, Hapai area. Upon checking the vehicle Police Officers confiscated 6 cartons of Canoe Lager beer.

A 40-year-old man is in police custody after officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Malaita Province arrested him at a village in Small Malaita following the death of another man on 4 May 2019.

It is alleged the accused attacked the deceased with a knife following an argument over a land dispute at Riverside Village on 4 May 2019.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) made several arrests overnight in Honiara as police continues to respond to incidences throughout the City.

RSIPF Deputy Commissioner (DC) National Security and Support Juanita Matanga says, “Overnight our operational officers in Honiara responded to a few isolated incidents in Honiara, and so far four arrests have been made for possession of marijuana and drink and drive.”

Police in Honiara have arrested a 46-year-old man for drunk driving in the Chinatown area of Honiara on 2 May 2019.

Police officers on duty last night sighted a short boot vehicle travelling on the road at China Town and suspected that the driver was under the influence of liquor. Officers stopped the vehicle and tested his blood alcohol level which was over the legal limit. A bottle of kwaso was also found in the vehicle.
