The four officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) who returned from the second deployment to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan have been awarded the RSIPF’s International Law Enforcement Cooperation Medal during an official welcome parade at the Rove Police Headquarters today.

The four officers, who arrived back in Honiara on 23 October 2018 include:

Staff Sergeant Tex Tafoa;
Sergeant Nelson Kalea;
Police Constable Gregory Kisina, and
Police Constable Joseph Poleita.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Tigoa Police Station in the Rennell and Bellona Province recently conducted community awareness meetings on the Family Protection Act (FPA) for communities and the school in West Rennell.

“The awareness meetings have been held after two of our officers from Tigoa Police Station attended a two-week training on the Family Protection Act held at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara,” says Supervising Provincial Police Commander, Renbel Province, Sergeant Chris Tongaka.

Police at Tulagi in Central Province have arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly assaulting his wife and tying up his 13-year-old elder son at Ha’a village on Big Gela recently.

The suspect was charge for domestic violence under Section 57 subsection 1 of the new Family Protection Act.

As part of its preparations for the 2019 National General Election, 23 officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Makira-Ulawa Province underwent an intensive Public Order Management (POM) training from 16 – 19 October 2018 at Kirakira.

Police at Taro in Choiseul Province have arrested a 52-year-old man for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl at different times in June and September 2018 in the Sube Sube area close to Poroporo Village on the Choiseul main land opposite Taro Island.

The alleged incident was only reported to Police at Taro on 22 October 2018.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Vincent Eria says, “This is another sad incident involving a very young girl. It is even worse as the suspect is the girl’s own grandfather.”

The capacity of Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) officers serving in Choiseul Province to deal with Public Order Management (POM) incidents in that Province has been boosted with the completion of an intensive POM training conducted at Taro 16 – 20 October 2018.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Vincent Eria says, “The training is to equip my officers in preparation for any public order situation that might arise in the province in the future including during the National General Election (NGE) next year.”

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SICCI) are taking the lead at finding a solution to the traffic situation at the Fishing Village Market in East Honiara.

“RSIPF and SICCI have decided to take the lead in the much discussed traffic situation at the Fishing Village Market in East Honiara with the formation of a sub-committee to consider ways of resolving the situation there which has come under a lot of public criticism,” says Inspector Brian Surimalefo, the Supervising Director Traffic Department.

Police at Auki in Malaita Province have arrested a 21-year-old male person for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl at Fulisango Village in Central Kwara’ae on 6 October 2018.

Police arrested the suspect on 18 October 2018.

The alleged rape incident happened in the evening of 6 October 2018 when the victim was on her way back to her house after watching movies at a nearby residence.
