The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is monitoring the registration of voters for the Solomon Islands National General Election 2019, since it started on 3 September 2018 in Honiara and throughout the country.

RSIPF Supervising Deputy Commissioner (DC) Operation, Joseph Manelugu says, “Officers of the RSIPF in Honiara and throughout the provinces are monitoring the registration process as part of their normal duties with people travelling to their registration centres scattered throughout the communities.”

A man in his 30’s has been arrested and charged on 3 September 2018 for the alleged rape of a 19-year-old woman at the Henderson Plantation area east of Honiara.

The man has been remanded and is due to re-appear in court 14 days’ time of his remand date.

It is alleged the man raped the19-year-old woman at an area called Henderson Plantation, east of Honiara between 3 and 4 pm on 31 August 2018.

A 32-year-old man who is a suspect in an alleged arson incident which happened in Central Guadalcanal in 2016 has been arrested and remanded in custody on 3 September 2018.

It is alleged the man together with others allegedly burned five dwelling houses including a kitchen house at Wind Ridge and Bubutoha area in Central Guadalcanal on 17 April 2016. The suspect has been on the run until Police in Guadalcanal Province arrested him early this week.

The Task Force JANUS has arrested a 45-year-old male on 24 August 2018 in Honiara for alleged official corruption.

Assistant Commissioner (AC) Crime and Intelligence Ian Vaevaso says, “On Tuesday 28 August 2018, members of JANUS arrested and interviewed a 45-year-old male in relation to an offence of Official Corruption contrary to Section 91(b) of the Solomon Islands Penal Code Chapter 26.

Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) officers from the National Operations Portfolio and other portfolios have conducted a route march from the Marine School, Ranadi in East Honiara to Rove Police Headquarters in West Honiara in the early hours of today 31 August 2018.

Police officers from the Maritime Unit, Police Band, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD), Fire and Rescue Service and the Police Response Team (PRT) participated in the march.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) are mourning the loss of colleague officer Staff Sergeant (SSgt) Roland Lapo who passed away suddenly at Taro in Choiseul Province on 29 August 2018.

The late Lapo was serving at the Taro Police Station when he died while on training with his fellow officers. He suffered a suspected heart attack and was taken to medical attention by his fellow officers but passed away.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has conducted its first Crime Prevention Committee (CPC) training in Isabel Province at Samasodu Village from 20 - 21 August 2018.

Thirty participants from seven villages in the Katova Ward attended the two-day training.

Police in Central Province have conducted awareness talks at Paposi Primary School and Paibeta Community High school on Savo Island on 29 August 2018.

Topics presented during the awareness talk include what is law, what are the three sources of Laws in connection to the School rules, anti-social behavior and leading drivers of crime like marijuana, kwaso and alcohol.
