Communities in the Katova Ward, Isabel Province will benefit from a two-day Crime Prevention Committee (CPC) training held at Samasodu Village, Isabel province on 20 August to 21 August 2018.

Thirty participants from seven different villages including officers from the Isabel Provincial government attended the workshop coordinated by Sergeant Rodney Hirovaka, the Community Policing officer from Buala Police Station and Deputy Commissioner of Police Gabriel Manelusi.

Police in North Malaita, Malaita Province have arrested three suspects in connection with an alleged store break-in which occurred on Saturday 25 August at the Malu’u Station.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Superintendent Timothy Apaesi says, “The value of goods stolen is estimated at around $5,000.00.”

PPC Apaesi says, “The three suspects aged between 20 and 30 years old were arrested and charged for alleged store break-in and have been formally bailed”

Police in Central Province have undergone a weeklong training on Operation Safety and Public Order Management at the provincial capital Tulagi from 20-24 August 2018.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Superintendent Patricia Leta says, “I am proud to have the training extended to Central Province as it will be first of its kind to be held here. The Training has given my officers the capability and skills to control any public order situations like riots in the future.”

The National Community Policing Team of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) and Solomon Island Police Support Program (SIPSP) held a workshop with the Honiara Youth Hub on Crime Prevention Strategy at the Multi-purpose Hall 24 August 2018.

National Community Policing Program Coordinator Sergeant (Sgt) John Manegaua says, “The purpose of the workshop was for the RSIPF and youth leaders to come together and learn about crime prevention and problem-solving on using the SARA model.”

Fourteen officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) received completion certificates for undergoing a computer training which ended at the Police Academy at Rove in Honiara on 24 August 2018.

Director RSIPF Police Academy, Superintendent Ms Mary Wale Bennett says, “The Computer Training Course is one of the selected programs that are taught to all RSIPF officers to assist their capabilities from documents to tasks they do daily and ways of sending information from one person to another and understanding the usage of each computer program. Police officers in Munda, Western Province have received a report about a crocodile attack on a 14-year-old boy in the Rendova Harbour area on 24 August 2018.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander Western Province, Superintendent Cedar Nevol says, “On Friday evening children from Rendova Harbour went out on a diving trip to an Island called Bao not far from their village.”

She adds: “Whilst diving, a crocodile grabbed the victim and pulled him into the sea. On seeing this, the other children went back to the village and reported the incident.”

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team will conduct a live demolition of a bomb in the Taihohoru Area of North West Guadalcanal on Wednesday 29 August 2018.

Officer In-charge (OIC) of EOD, Inspector Clifford Tunuki says, “This bomb was reported recently to EOD by communities in the area. The task is to safely destroy the bomb by explosive means.”

OIC Tunuki says, “The Taihohoru area in North West Guadalcanal area will be active from 9am to 4pm on 29 August 2018.”

A 22-year-old male person was killed during a traffic accident at the Ferakui Hill, near Dala North, West Kwara’ae, Malaita Province on 25 August 2018.

Supervising Police Provincial Commander Malaita Province, Superintendent Timothy Apaesi, “It is alleged that the incident occurred when the vehicle was on its way to the North Road to do trading of cargo at villages along the road. Besides the cargo there were also 17 passengers on board the vehicle.”

Police at the Henderson Police Station in Guadalcanal Province are investigating the death of an Asian logger at Vatunaba in West Guadalcanal on 22 August 2018.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Guadalcanal Province, Superintendent Nixson Manetoga says, “The incident occurred at Vatunaba, 16 kilometres south of Mamara in West Guadalcanal.”

PPC Manetoga says, “The deceased is an Indonesian national who worked for the Tri Jam Enterprises.”

The Central Magistrates Court in Honiara has fined a second male suspect in the recent kwaso raid at the Namoruka settlement, West Honiara, $12,000.00 yesterday (24 August 2018) in after being found guilty of brewing the illegal substance.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Honiara City, Chief Superintendent Mr Alfred Uiga says, “The defendant was arrested and charged for the offences of restriction on making liquor contrary to Section 50 (2) (b) and Section 50 (2) (c) of the Liquor Act.”
