Police in Central Province have arrested a 22-year-old man and is facing three counts of Intimidations contrary to section 231 of the Penal code.

It is alleged that the male person on three separate occasions from 14 to 15 August 2018 at Haroro Village threatened to harm three victims, while armed with a bush knife, bow and arrow.

The matter was reported to the Tulagi Police Station on 7 September 2018 of which the suspect was brought to the Station by his brothers. He was formally arrested and placed in in police custody.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have been urged to do more and to make a difference when responding to Family Violence (FV) incidents as it is still at a crisis level in the country.

“Let’s be honest, the rate of violence against women and girls in Solomon Islands is sky high. It has reached a crisis point but since the Family Protection Act (FPA) was passed in 2014 we still not making enough difference,” says RSIPF Commissioner, Matthew Varley.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) will mount an operation to provide security during the Oceania Football Championship (OFC) Under Sixteen (U-16) expected to kick off in Honiara over the weekend.

RSIPF Deputy Commissioner (DC) for Operation Support and National Security, Juanita Matanga says, “A total of four hundred and forty seven police officers will be involved in an operation to ensure law and order is maintained during the OFC Men’s U-16 Championship which will be held 9 – 22 September 2018.”

Police at Gizo in the Western Province have conducted Crime Prevention training for members of the Crime Prevention Committee and Council of Chiefs on Simbo Island on 4 August 2018.

Community Policing Officer at the Gizo Police Station, Sergeant (Sgt) Justina Fono Magu says, “There were 20 participants at the training including 12 members of the Council of Chiefs, with youth and women representatives.”

Police in Central Province have conducted a two-day training on Crime Prevention on Savo Island from 4 – 5 September 2018.

More than 35 participants from North and South Savo attended the training.

Speaking during the official opening the Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Superintendent Patricia Leta says, “The training will greatly assist you all to resolve issues affecting your communities using the S.A.R.A Model (Scanning, Analyse, Respond and Assess) to solve problems.”

The Commissioner of Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) acknowledges the services of Advisor, Miles Humphrey of the Solomon Islands Police Development Program (SIPDP) who left the Solomon Islands yesterday (4 September).

Mr Humphrey worked as an unsworn member of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI), and then with SIPDP when RAMSI ended in June 2017.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is monitoring the registration of voters for the Solomon Islands National General Election 2019, since it started on 3 September 2018 in Honiara and throughout the country.

RSIPF Supervising Deputy Commissioner (DC) Operation, Joseph Manelugu says, “Officers of the RSIPF in Honiara and throughout the provinces are monitoring the registration process as part of their normal duties with people travelling to their registration centres scattered throughout the communities.”

A man in his 30’s has been arrested and charged on 3 September 2018 for the alleged rape of a 19-year-old woman at the Henderson Plantation area east of Honiara.

The man has been remanded and is due to re-appear in court 14 days’ time of his remand date.

It is alleged the man raped the19-year-old woman at an area called Henderson Plantation, east of Honiara between 3 and 4 pm on 31 August 2018.

A 32-year-old man who is a suspect in an alleged arson incident which happened in Central Guadalcanal in 2016 has been arrested and remanded in custody on 3 September 2018.

It is alleged the man together with others allegedly burned five dwelling houses including a kitchen house at Wind Ridge and Bubutoha area in Central Guadalcanal on 17 April 2016. The suspect has been on the run until Police in Guadalcanal Province arrested him early this week.
