Police in Tulagi Central Province have arrested six male youth on the night of 12 August 2018 for the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman.

It is alleged that between 1.00am and 4.00 am on 26 July 2018 the victim from Tambariki Village and her cousin sister went to buy rolls of tobacco when the incident occurred at Salavo Village, Sand-fly area.

Police at Taro in Choiseul Province have arrested 15 people in relation to the Voruvoru wounding incident in Choiseul Province on 28 July 2018.

Operation Manager Choiseul Province, Senior Sergeant(S/Sgt) Rolland Lapo says, “A total of 15 suspects were arrested in relation to their alleged involvement in the Voruvoru Village incident on 28 July 2018.”

S/Sgt Lapo says, “This incident occurred after a fight broke out between a local person at the Village and an Asian employed at a nearby Paopao logging camp.”

Police in the Central Province have completed high visibility patrols in 34 villages throughout the Province during the past week.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Superintendent Patricia Leta says, “Villages visited during the high visibility patrol are on Gela and Russell Islands.”

PPC Leta says, “Police in Tulagi and Yandina are heavily engaged in visiting communities as part of the ongoing Crime Prevention Strategy. They conduct community engagements with village chiefs and awareness on drug and kwaso (home brew) related activities.”

Police at Auki in Malaita Province today (9 August) conducted high visibility police presence in Auki town as a lead up to the Malaita Province Second Appointed Day 35th anniversary next week.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Inspector Fredrick Pado says, “This high visibility operation is to reduce illegal alcohol consumption and other criminal activities in Auki.”

Inspector Pado says, “Several kwaso (home brew) products been confiscated from some of the Auki betel nuts stalls and currently investigation underway in to those matters.”

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Auki, Malaita Province have conducted a week of community policing in West Kwaio, from 30 July to 4 August 2018.

The community outreach started from Kwarekwa to Rate Village.

A 22-year-old male has been sentenced by the Central Magistrates Court in Honiara on 8 August 2018 to pay a fine of $500.00 after he was found guilty of stealing from a market vendor at the National Art Gallery in Honiara on 7 August 2018.

“The victim was selling his necklaces when the defendant went over to his table and pretended to look at the necklaces. He then took four of the necklaces and escaped quickly,” says Provincial Police Commander Honiara City, Chief Superintendent Alfred Uiga.

The nine people missing at sea while travelling from the Russell Islands in the Central Province to Honiara on 2 August 2018 have been found safe and well.

The boat, which had drifted for five days, went ashore at Gizunalapu Island, near Babahaero Village, in the Isabel Province at about 3 am in the morning of 7 August 2018. It is not clear at this stage what happened to them that led them to drift as far as Isabel

Two adults, 31 and 36 years old have been sentenced by the Central Honiara Magistrates Court for the offence of consuming liquor in a public place contrary to Section 65 of the Liquor Act on 6 August 2018.

“On Saturday 4 August an officer of the Honiara City Council was on foot beat patrol around the market area, when he was informed by a by stander that a male was consuming alcohol in front of the next shop,” says Provincial Police Commander Honiara City, Chief Superintendent Alfred Uiga.
