The Provincial Police Headquarters at Kirakira in the Makira-Ulawa Province has been audited by a team from the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara from 22-23 May 2018.

The auditing is part of the Provincial Operational Performance Audit (POPA) of all Police assets, leadership issues and other administrative matters. The Audit are rolled out across the country to improve standards and practices. Six have been done so far this year.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police (RSIPF) National Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) Corruption Team have arrested a member of the Makira-Ulawa Provincial Government for alleged corruption offences recently.

Assistant Commissioner (AC) Crime Ian Vaevaso says, “The member is alleged to be the Minister for Education in the Makira-Ulawa Province when he was arrested by police. He is charged with two counts of Conversion under section 278, subsection (c) and (i) of the Penal Code.”

The Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force(RSIPF), Matthew Varley has congratulated the Provincial Police Commander, Makira-Ulawa Province and his officers for the work they have done to maintain law and order in that Province despite the some challenges.

Commissioner Varley addressed the police officers at the Kirakira Police Station during a brief visit on 22-23 May on the way back from the opening of a new police station on Ulawa Island.

Four of the five missing people who were rescued on 16 May on one of the islands in the Duff Islands in Temotu Province have now been discharged from the Lata Hospital after medical treatment while one of them is still undergoing treatment at the Hospital.

RSIPF officers successfully transported the four men and one child from the Duff Islands by the Police Patrol Boat Auki to Lata for medical treatment on 19 May 2018.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is urging its officers to set a high standard of driving on the roads as the Force continues to provide driver training for its officers.

Eighteen officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police (RSIPF) have been undergoing vehicle driving training in Honiara since 14 May 2018.

Two groups of officers, one group being from the RSIPF Close Personal Protection (CPP) Unit, Police Respond Team (PRT), Logistics and the other group from female police officers are undergoing the Basic Driver’s Training program in Honiara.

Police in Tulagi, Central Province are assisting the Central Provincial Government through the provision of training for security officers employed by the Province.

The Training, from 20 – 25 May 2018 is being conducted by the Provincial Police Commander Central Province, Superintendent Patricia Leta and her officers.

Communities in and around Taheramo on Ulawa Island in the Makira-Ulawa Province will benefit from a new police station officially opened on 22 May 2018.

The new police station funded by the National Government under the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services includes the actual police station and four staff houses. It will be manned by four police officers.

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police (RSIPF) in Taro, Choiseul Province are searching for a 55-year-old man who had gone missing recently.

The man is believed to have gone missing between Malopaga Reef and Borokuni village in North West Choiseul during a diving trip with four other people on 9 May. The incident was only reported to Taro Police Station on 10 May 2018.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Superintendent Vincent Eria Says, “Upon receiving the report of the missing person my officers attended to it and assisted in the search for the missing person.”

The capability of the officers in the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Traffic Department for the safe use of Random Breath Testing (RBT) equipment and speed lazar cameras will be boosted following a two-day workshop held at the Rove Police Headquarter in Honiara from 16 – 17 May 2018.

Thirteen Police officers attended the Workshop. Two officers from Police National Community Policing Department, one officer from Guadalcanal Provincial Police and ten officers from Kukum Traffic Department.

Four men and a child missing at sea since 30 March 2018 in Temotu Province have been found by local fishermen at an island near the Duff Islands in that Province.

The boat with four men and one child went missing when travelling from Lata to the Reef Islands. Police and relatives have been searching for them since then.

Police in Lata, Temotu Province have been informed that the missing boat and five people were located by local fishing men on 16 May 2018 and have been taken to the Duff Islands.
