Police in the Makira-Ulawa Province have completed a one day training on work planning conducted at the Kirakira Police Station on 9 February 2018 which is expected to assist them plan the activities of the various units at the Station.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Makira-Ulawa Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai who conducted the training says, “This training is important to re-emphasise the expectation that the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have on its officers, especially supervisors, to implement the RSIPF Strategic Direction 2017-2020.”

Police at Gizo in the Western Province have rescued seven people who were drifting in a white ray boat powered by a 15hp engine near Vella La Vella Island on 9 February 2018

“The boat was travelling to Sambora Village in Vella La Vella from Gizo with seven passengers on board when they ran out of fuel and begun drifting,” says Provincial Police Commander, Western Province, Chief Superintendent, Mathias Lenialu.

Police at Munda in the Western Province have arrested two suspects following a raid on black market outlets on 9 February 2018 after allegations of illegal selling of alcohol at several locations in the township.

Police confiscated a total of 30 cartons of alcohol which included a variety of beers and whiskey and cola.

Two suspects including a female have been charged with illegal sale of alcohol and released awaiting a date for their appearance in court.

With an increase recorded in the cases of domestic violence in the Western Provincial capital of Gizo over the past two months, police in the Province have called for a fight against this crime that is affecting women and children in the province.

Police in the Western Province commends the assistance of some of the Crime Prevention Committees (CPCs) in the province for their support of the work of the police during the recent Christmas and New Year Festive season.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Western Province, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu says, “The CPCs for Ward 7 Vonunu , Ward 8 Buleana , both on Vella la Vella Island and Ward 13 Rarumana, on Parara Island were actively involved in the arrest of 15 suspects on 27 and 28 December 2017.”

Police in the Western Province welcomes and applauds the border peace dialogue between the chiefs and other community leaders from islands in the Western border region of Solomon Islands and Bougainville on the Papua New Guinea (PNG) side of the common border.

The border peace dialogue resumed last November and is expected to continue this year. It is coordinated by the Director of Peace and Reconciliation in Western Province.

Police at Gizo in the Western Province have completed a one week media awareness training which will assist them make better use of the media in their policing work.

The Provincial Police Commander, Western Province, Chief Superintendent, Mathias Lenialu and his heads of divisions attended the five-day training from 5 – 9 February at the Gizo Police Station. The training, funded under the Solomon Islands Police Development Program (SIPDF), was coordinated by the Program’s Media Advisor, Johnson Honimae.

Police in Tetere, Guadalcanal Province have arrested a 20-year-old male on 7 February 2018 for allegedly burning down a dwelling house at Kolona village, Guadalcanal province.

“My officers received the report and responded, on the same day, and arrested the suspect and charged him for arson and will be taken to court for a remand application,” says Supervising Provincial Police Commander, Guadalcanal Province, Superintendent Nixson Manetoga.

Police at Tetere Police Station in Guadalcanal Province arrested a 34-year-old male for allegedly brewing of kwaso (home brew) at Tatau village via Matepono area, North Guadalcanal on 9 February 2018.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander, Superintendent Nixson Manetoga says, “My officers from Tetere received the report from the communities that there is an activity of selling and brewing of kwaso and my officers went and raided the said location around 4 am in the morning."

The Police Response Team (PRT) of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is currently conducting an operation in the community of Boneghi in North West Guadalcanal after the alleged sighting of a crocodile in the area.

It was alleged a saltwater crocodile was sighted at Boneghi Two Beach which is a popular swimming location for the residents of Honiara City.
