The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) appeals to the communities throughout the country to work together with police and report sexual related cases which occur in their families and villages.
Speaking during the weekly police radio program, “Polis blo iu and iu” on the SIBC on 18 January 2018, RSIPF Assistant Commissioner, Crime, Ian Vaevaso says, “I would like our communities to continue to report to police any sexual offence committed among our own families, villages or the community at large. We cannot afford to be silent on this issue.”

The Police Response Team (PRT) of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has killed a total of three crocodiles during separate operations in the Western and Central Islands Provinces since 13 January 2018.

“Following the attack by a crocodile on a seven-year-old boy from Voloa Village last month, I requested the PRT to mount an operation in the area to get rid of the reptiles. The operation included setting up of crocodile traps and patrols,” says Supervising Provincial Police Commander, CIP, Inspector Hugo Maelasi.

Police in the Guadalcanal Province are calling on people residing alongside rivers, streams, creeks and coastal areas in the province to take the necessary precaution at all times following the death of man believed to have been killed by a crocodile in the Tangarare area in West Guadalcanal on 15 January 2018.

It is alleged a 20 year-old male was attacked by a crocodile at Hove River in the Tangarare area after his body was found next day (16 January) at the same river by relatives.

Police at Tingoa Police Station in the Rennell-Bellona Province are continuing their policing duties including conducting high visibility patrols and community visits around the province.

“Although we are understaffed with only five officers at post we are continuing to do our policing duties in and around the communities here,” says Supervising Provincial Police Commander, Rennell-Bellona Province, Sergeant Mick Pongi.

He adds: “This includes visiting communities to hold awareness talks and conducting high visibility patrols, attending to reports and making arrests.”

Police in Kirakira, Makira-Ulawa Province have arrested a 46-year-old male at the Kirakira main market for allegedly brewing and selling of home-made alcohol locally known as honey wine, on 15 January 2018.

It is alleged the man produced the alcohol as a source of income.

The man has been charged for Restriction of Making Liquor and illegal selling of Alcohol under the Liquor Act and released on bail to appear before Eastern Magistrate Court in Kirakira later this month.

Police traffic officers in Honiara together with the Honiara City Council (HCC) law enforcers are conducting traffic checks in Honiara from 16 - 30 January 2018 as the City Council implements its decision on the new bus routes.

This came about after members of the public raised concerns on some buses that are not complying with the HCC Ordinance on new bus routes and the presence of unlicensed motor vehicles on the road.

The Provincial Police Commander, Guadalcanal Province, Superintendent Nixson Manetoga appeals for calm in communities within the Marau Sound area of East Guadalcanal following the death of a 40-year-old male victim during a wounding incident at the weekend.

The victim passed away at the National Referral Hospital today 16 January 2018 where he was admitted after he was struck with an axe on the left side of his head during an incident at One Village in the Hatare area of Marau Sound.

Police at the Malu’u Police Station in North Malaita, Malaita Province have arrested a 19- year-old man on 14 January 2018 following an alleged break-in into a Malaita provincial government house at the Station.

Police alleged the man stole valuable properties worth around $1,750.00 from the house.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Malaita Province, Superintendent Timothy Apaesi says, “I appeal to members of the communities in Malu’u to work together with the police for a safer community in supplying information about the alleged incident.”

Police at Yandina in the Central Islands Province (CIP) arrested a female suspect on 10 January 2018 in relation to a family violence incident at Ilua Village on Banika Island, in the Russell Islands.

Yandina Police received the report and responded by attending the scene and apprehended the suspect and took her to Yandina Police Station where she was dealt with.
