Police destroy crocodiles in Western Province

The Police Response Team (PRT) of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) destroyed two crocodiles at Kolombangara Island in the Western Province on 13 March 2018.

Director of the RSIPF National Response Department, Chief Superintendent Stanley Riolo says, “PRT members were deployed in an operation to Western Province from Honiara following information from the people of Kolombangara that crocodiles were seen in the coastal area and rivers on the Island and were a danger to people there.”

Police Women Advisory Network discusses future of women in Pacific policing

The strategic direction of female officers in the Pacific Islands region is the focus of a two day workshop being held in Honiara, 14 – 15 March 2018.

The workshop, hosted by the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is coordinated by the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) Secretariat in New Zealand. Participating in the meeting are Women’s Advisory Network (WAN) representatives from Australia, Cook Islands, Fiji, Guam, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu Police.

RBT awareness improves behaviour of drivers in Kirakira

Police in Kirakira in the Makira Ulawa Province believe the introduction of random breath testing (RBT) and the series of public awareness meetings in early December 2017 about the device has improved the behaviour of vehicle and outboard motor (OBM) drivers in the provincial capital.

Police in Makira Ulawa applauds community for arresting arson suspect

Police in the Makira Ulawa Province have applauded assistance by people at Ubuna Village in West Makira after arresting a man in his 20s in connection with an alleged arson at the village on 4 March 2018.

It is alleged that the man started a fire which completely burnt down a temporary classroom building at the Ubuna Primary School.

RSIPF strong message for International Women’s Day

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) female officers took part in the march alongside other women in Honiara to mark International Women’s Day, today, 08 March 2018.

The RSIPF Commissioner, Matthew Varley during the police media weekly conference highlighted that the police is committed to the gender equality and progress of women in the police force.

More than seventy women police officers took part in the event, in Honiara.

Police Response Team conducts public order management training

The Police Response Team (PRT) of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force as part of its preparation for any public order management conducted a training exercise with Central Response Unit (CRU) and Guadalcanal Police Response Unit (GPRU) at Hells point on 6 March 2018.

Director National Response Department, Chief Superintendent Stanley Riolo Says, “Officers who attended the training are mostly operators from Honiara City Police, Guadalcanal Province Police and PRT.”

PPC Makira-Ulawa urges officers to make use of media awareness training

Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Makira-Ulawa Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai urges his officers to learn as much as they can from the Media Awareness Training underway at the Kirakira Police Station and use what they learn to assist them in their policing work.

Twelve participants including the PPC and Heads of Units at the Kirakira Police Station as well as two officers of the Makira-Ulawa provincial disaster response office are attending the training which is being held from 5 – 9 March 2018. Two female are among the participants.

A senior police officer has been suspended

The Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has suspended a senior police officer after a crash on 01 March 2018 at Lower Kola ridge road above Florence Young School in East Honiara.

It was alleged the officer was under the influence of alcohol and driving a private car when it went off the left side of the road and hit an electricity post.

Police traffic records improvement in adherence to traffic safety messages

There has been a drastic decrease in number of careless driving incidents in Honiara as reported by the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Traffic Department at Kukum for the period 23 February – 01 March 2018.

Acting Director of RSIPF Traffic Department, Inspector Brian Surimalefo says, “I am pleased to announce that there has been an improvement to careless driving, compared to the previous, especially with vehicles creating an extra third lane along the roads."

Police working together with community to deal with crime

Police have arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly injuring his wife over the weekend, 17 February 2018, at Gilbert Camp area in East Honiara.

The matter was reported to police by a community leader alleging the man injured his wife with a weapon. Police then responded, obtained evidence and then arrested the man who was allegedly involved in the incident.

It was alleged the man got angry after his wife accused him of being under the influence of alcohol which led to an argument, as a result the man attacked the wife with a weapon believed to be a plate cutter.
