Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Superintendent Timothy Apaesi welcomes the week-long Media Awareness Training which started at the Auki Police Station today (19 February 2018).
Fifteen participants including the Provincial Police Commander, Heads of Divisions and other senior officers are attending the training. Three female officers are also participating.
Police in Kirakira, Makira Ulawa province are searching for a man in 30’s who fell off from an outboard motor canoe into the sea while travelling in the sea area outside the Ngorangora Airport at the provincial centre at mid-day 15 February 2018.
The alleged accident happened when the 18 feet banana boat powered by a 40 horse-power yamaha engine was returning from dropping late boarding passengers on MV KCB 2 on her way to Honiara from Kirakira.
Police in Kirakira, Makira Ulawa Province have arrested an elderly man for damaging a vehicle at the Ngarihau settlement in Central Makira on 6 February 2018.
The vehicle is owned by Chia Tai Logging Company currently operating in Central Makira.
“It is alleged that the incident occurred as a result of a disagreement over benefits of the logging operation,” says Provincial Police Commander, Makira Ulawa Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai.
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and other stakeholders will be able to manage victims of sexual assault better at the end of a one week Sexual Assault Victim Management workshop which opened at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara on 14 February 2018.
Forty officers of the RSIPF from Honiara and the provinces as well as 25 participants representing other stakeholders are attending the workshop which will end on 17 February.
Police in Tulagi, Central Islands Province, arrested a 43-year-old man on 12 February for allegedly stabbing a 19-year-old boy at Burungia village two days earlier.
“It is alleged that the suspect was drunk when he allegedly stabbed the victim on his buttock using a small kitchen knife,” says Staff Sergeant Measly Kelo Veets, Operation Manager at the Tulagi Police Station.
He adds: “We responded to the report and arrested the suspect where he was dealt with accordingly whilst the victim is still at the hospital undergoing treatment.”
Police officers posted at the Honiara Central Market Police Post confiscated 32 bottles of kwaso at the Market on 9 February 2018.
The bottles of kwaso were confiscated after members of the public reported to police that there are some people selling the illegal brew inside the vicinity of the Market.
“My officers including few Honiara City Council (HCC) law enforcers responded to reports received from members of the public and dealt with those involved,” says Provincial Police Commander, Honiara City, Chief Superintendent Alfred Uiga.
The Honiara City Central Police Station has temporarily relocated its enquiry desk to another building behind the Station as renovations are carried out on the current desk.
“The renovation is expected to be carried out within the next two weeks therefore we are relocating our customer service desk at the leaf hut behind the Station, just next to the police barracks,” says Support Manager, Central Police Station, Superintendent Barry Rush Saukiu.
Police at the Henderson Police Station in Guadalcanal Province have checked 40 vehicles and their drivers during a traffic check conducted in the Henderson area on 10 February 2018.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Guadalcanal Province, Nixson Manetoga says, “This is a small operation conducted to make sure that drivers are complying with traffic regulations and that both drivers and passengers are safe when traveling to and from Honiara City.”
Police in Kirakira in the Makira-Ulawa Province are working together with local chiefs at Ripo Village on Ulawa Island to calm the situation following an alleged arson incident at the Village on 11 February 2018.
It was alleged a group of men claimed the owner of the house practiced sorcery and so decided to burn the house.
Police in the Makira-Ulawa Province have completed a one day training on work planning conducted at the Kirakira Police Station on 9 February 2018 which is expected to assist them plan the activities of the various units at the Station.
