The Fire and Rescue Services of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) today, witnessed the official hand over of three fire trucks donated by the New South Wales Fire and Rescue Service of Australia.

The Commissioner of the Fire and Rescue Services, New South Wales, Paul Baxter officially handed over the trucks to the Solomon Islands Minister of Police, National Security and Correctional Services, Hon. Moses Garu during a ceremony at the RSIPF Central Fire Station in Honiara.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force appeals to drivers and pedestrians in Honiara to be patient as traffic in the capital city will be affected by the 2018 Commonwealth Games Baton Relay which will start in the afternoon of 5 November 2017 and will go on until 7 November.

The Commonwealth Games Baton Relay is held leading up to every Commonwealth Games with the baton visiting member countries of the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth Games will be held in the Gold Coast, Australia, 4 – 15 April next year.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force in the Western Province have called for calm during celebrations to mark the 34th anniversary of the Province’s 2nd Appointed Day which will be held 7 December 2017 at Bekabeka, Gatokae Island, in the Marovo Lagoon.

It is anticipated that important guests representing the National and Provincial Governments will attend the celebrations. Police will mount a parade and the RSIPF Brass Band will be performing during the celebrations.

Police in Kirakira in the Makira-Ulawa Province are investigating a traffic accident at Waimapuru National Secondary School on 30 November 2017.

The vehicle was travelling easterly direction and collided with the security fence of Waimapuru National Secondary school.

Provincial Police Commander, Makira Ulawa, Superintendent Peter Sitai says, “Three people were on board the vehicle including the driver. The driver had no driver’s licence and was allegedly under of influence of alcohol. None of the people on the vehicle received any injuries.”

More officers in the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) are on their way to be qualified detectives following the completion of a detective qualifying training course held at the Police Academy in Honiara 23 October to 24 November 2017.

This was the second such course held this year. It was attended by 30 participants comprising of 24 male and 6 female officers.

The training was facilitated by the RSIPF Academy with other stake holders including the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Public Solicitor’s Office and the Leadership Code Commission.

Police in the Central Islands Province (CIP) has appealed to communities in the Province to stay calm and have a safe celebration during the upcoming Christmas and New Year festivities.

“As we head towards the Christmas festivities, let us take this moment to look at what is the real meaning of Christmas. Christmas is the time of celebration and a time for reconciliation and a time of thanks giving to God for another successful year,” says Supervising Provincial Police Commander, CIP, Inspector Hugo Maelasi in his message to communities in the province.

Sergeant Manegaua, from Guadalcanal Province, has been in the RSIPF for the past 16 years. He is currently a supervisor in the National Community Policing Department in Honiara. He is married with two children.

Provincial Police Commander for Makira Ulawa Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai reminds the good people of that province to have a crime-free and safe festive season for 2017.

“My Christmas message to friends and families in the Makira Ulawa Province is very clear, do the right thing, don’t drink and drive, and celebrate with your families to ensure we minimise incidents of family violence during this festive season. But if you are a victim of family violence come forward and report the matter to the police,” says Superintendent Sitai

The Australian Government sponsored Solomon Islands Police Development Programme (SIPDP) today hosted a morning tea at the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force Rove Headquarters during which Police officers from Australia, New Zealand, the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force as well as officers from the Australian High Commission and several non-government organisations made pledges to protect women and girls from violence.

Police at Tulagi in the Central Islands Province today 29 November arrested a male suspect for allegedly defiling an underage girl.

The male suspect is alleged to have sexually abused the underage girl on two different occasions.

Acting Provincial Police Commander, Central Islands Province, Inspector Hugo Maelasi says, “Statements have already obtained from the victim and her mother after the mother reported the incident to the Police. A case has now been opened and investigations are underway.”
