Police from the Naha Police Station in East Honiara are investigating the death of a male person at a factory in the Ranadi area of Honiara today (22 January).

It is alleged the deceased died inside the factory. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the person.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has killed over 27 crocodiles since the rearmament of the Force in May 2017 until the second week of this month.

“Since the Police Response Team (PRT) was re-armed in May 2017, RSIPF has conducted several operations to manage the crocodile population throughout the country. These operations are conducted following requests from communities after they sight the reptiles in their areas,” says Supervising Director of the National Response Department, Superintendent, Rex Waiwori.

The Police National Traffic Department reports a slight drop in the number of reported traffic cases in Honiara during the first few weeks of January 2018.

“This is a very good outcome,” says Supervising Director of the Traffic Department, Staff Sergeant George Mouli.

Staff Sergeant Mouli explains, “During the first week of January 2018, we recorded a total of 49 cases mostly being for unlicensed motor vehicles followed by permitting unlicensed motor vehicle, careless driving and presence of alcohol in person’s blood.,”

Police at Kirakira in the Makira Ulawa Province have advised the captain of vessel MV Awaka on 19 January 2018 during a safe boat operation to ensure the ship is safe before travel as it appeared the boat was overloaded with passengers.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Superintendent Peter Sitai says, “My officers at Kirakira have checked the vessel, M.V Awaka and the number of passengers who intended to travel on-board was between 300-400 people.”

A team of police officers from Kirakira Station, in Makira Ulawa Province successfully completed a week's tour of Ugi Island as part of the Crime Prevention Strategy; from 12 -16 January 2018.

Police at the Henderson Police Station in Guadalcanal Province confirms the person reported missing from the Tenaru area in Central Guadalcanal since Sunday 14 January 2018 has been found and well.

It was alleged that the man went missing between 2 and 3 am in the early morning of 14 January after watching video at a neighbour’s house in the Tenaru area in Central Guadalcanal.

The relatives conducted a search on the night and later reported the matter to the police the next day.

The Crime Records Office of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force has recorded 5,457 criminal cases throughout the country in 2017.

The record highlights various categories of crimes and in which the highest number of cases recorded was crime against person 1,812; statute offences 1,683; crime against property 1,430; public morality 120 cases and crime against lawful authority 412.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) appeals to the communities throughout the country to work together with police and report sexual related cases which occur in their families and villages.
Speaking during the weekly police radio program, “Polis blo iu and iu” on the SIBC on 18 January 2018, RSIPF Assistant Commissioner, Crime, Ian Vaevaso says, “I would like our communities to continue to report to police any sexual offence committed among our own families, villages or the community at large. We cannot afford to be silent on this issue.”

The Police Response Team (PRT) of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has killed a total of three crocodiles during separate operations in the Western and Central Islands Provinces since 13 January 2018.

“Following the attack by a crocodile on a seven-year-old boy from Voloa Village last month, I requested the PRT to mount an operation in the area to get rid of the reptiles. The operation included setting up of crocodile traps and patrols,” says Supervising Provincial Police Commander, CIP, Inspector Hugo Maelasi.
