The Police in Western Province are providing high visible presence during festive activities to ensure public and community safety are maintained. One of the activities is the Honiara Gilbertese annual Christmas and New Year Festive Season volley ball tournament, which has commenced today 26th December 2017, at Titiana Village, in Gizo.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu says,” My officers will provide high visible presence at the area during the entire tournament to ensure peace and order is maintained”.

Police are investigating a fatal road accident that occurred today, along the Zion Road East Honiara, which resulted in the death of a 30-years-old female passenger.

The public bus was travelling in the easterly direction from the Talise bus stop heading towards Zion. Along the way, the bus ran off the road, over turned and as a result a female was injured.

The victim was transported to the National Referral Hospital and upon arrival at the Hospital, Medical Authorities pronounced her death.

Police checked 700 vehicles with six positive Random Breath Test during Christmas Festive Season Operation which begin on the 22 to 25 December 2017.

Supervising Assistant Commissioner National Capital and Crime Prevention Ms Patricia Leta says, “The checks also involved Random Breath Testing of motorist, detected, detained 13 unlicensed vehicles, dealt with unlicensed drivers and drivers detected above the prescribed level of alcohol.”

A female about 20-years-old was found dead at Travellers Motel in Auki over the weekend.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander Inspector Michael Maebiru says, “Currently my officers are investigating the circumstance surrounding the suspicious death.”

Inspector Michael Maebiru says, “I appeal to members of the public to provide information that will help investigators with their investigations.”

A male person between 30 to 40 years old found death at Buni area in Vona Vona lagoon in Western Province this morning.

Provincial Police Commander, Western Province Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu says, “The deceased went diving for beche-de-mer last night and did not return home.”

Chief Superintendent Lenialu says, “We received a report made this morning and worked on it with the assistance from the relatives of the deceased and the surrounding communities.”

“The incident looks suspicious and investigation currently continuing,” Said PPC Lenialu.

Provincial Police commander Western Province, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu call on motorist and boat drivers in Western Province to be reminded of think safety first before travelling on land and sea due to the current bad weather situation.

“I want to remind the general public in Gizo, Munda and Noro town especially vehicle owners and drivers to take precautionary measures when travelling on the roads during bad weather. Think about your safety and the road users. Do not drink and drive,” Said Mr Lenialu.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force now connected to the INTERPOL Information System (IIS) last week after the INTERPOL Capacity Building and Technical Team from the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation in Singapore visited Solomon Islands from 11– 15 December 2017.

The INTERPOL High Level delegation consist of the Head of Asia Pacific Coordination desk, Global Outreach, Regional Support, Coordinator Command & Coordination Centre, Staff from Capacity Building, Training Directorate and Staff from Information System & Technology.

Members of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Police Response Team (PRT) in Honiara have arrested a 30-year-old male suspect in relation to an alleged hit and run accident which occurred in the Town Ground area in the capital on 13 December 2017.

Supervising Director Traffic, Staff Sergeant George Mauli says, “On Wednesday 13 December 2017 around 6.15pm, the victim was allegedly crossing the road when he saw the traffic moving slowly when all of a sudden a vehicle heading in the easterly direction collided with the 10-year-old victim.”

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) wishes to clarify media reporting about its role in the destruction of the Blue Boats on 14 December 2017.

The RSIPF received a request for assistance from the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR) to transport their officers by police boat to the areas of Hanibeta Bay in the Ngella Islands.

The RSIPF provided that transport assistance and also used local police resources to cordon the area for security purposes. The RSIPF was requested by MFMR to witness the destruction of the Blue Boats.

Communities and residents in East Honiara will benefit from the multi-million dollar new Naha Police Station officially opened by the Prime Minister of Solomon Islands, Hon. Rick Houanipwela and the Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, H.E Roderick Brazier at a ceremony on 14 December 2017.

The new Naha Police Station, funded by the Australian Government, was built at a cost of SBD $9 million. It is constructed on the same site as the first station that was built and opened in 1979.
