The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Traffic Department and the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) are working together in an attempt to address the traffic situation in Honiara.

This follows the closure of the one lane bailey bridge in Chinatown and the old Mataniko Bridge near the Makolo Building by the contractor of the road improvement project, KITANO WKK. Only the new Mataniko Bridge is open for traffic leading to long traffic queues from both ends of the capital city.

Police at Taro, in the Choiseul Province have called on fishermen in the province to be careful when diving following the death of a fisherman from Tuzo Village on Friday 10 November.

The deceased, from Wagina was at Tuzo to do diving for beche-de-mer when he went missing.

The people of the Tuzo village saw his wooden canoe floating but did not see him therefore conducted a search but to no avail. They then sought assistance from the Police to search for the person.

Police in the Malaita Province are investigating the alleged assault of a 20-year-old male at Kofiloko Village, in the Baegu-Asifola constituency in North Malaita during a soccer match on 11 November 2017.

A 40-year-old man was arrested by police following the alleged incident and charged for assault causing actual bodily harm under Section 245 of the Penal Code. He was released on bail to appear before the Auki Magistrates Court at a later date.

Police at Atori in East Malaita in the Malaita Province have uprooted 100 marijuana plants and confiscated equipment used for the production of the local alcohol called kwaso after they were alerted during a community awareness talk conducted at Adaliua Village on 11 November 2017.

Members of the public have been congratulated for their cooperation in supporting a peaceful democratic process in the election of a new Prime Minister today.

“Our people have shown maturity and listened to the call for calm and peace while allowing the National Parliamentarians resolve the political situation. This happened this morning and for this Polis blo iu (Your Police) wishes to congratulate you all for showing respect for law and order during this time,” says Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Gwen Ratu.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) encourages “business as usual” on the eve of the vote for a new Prime Minister by Members of National Parliament in Honiara tomorrow Wednesday 15 November 2017.

“With the high visibility operation underway by Police in and around Honiara we want to encourage people to continue with business as usual tomorrow and the rest of this week,” says Supervising Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Gwen Ratu, who is also overall Commander of the Police Operations for the Election of a New Prime Minister.

Police at the Tingoa Police Station, on Rennell Island in the Rennell-Bellona Province are investigating the discovery of 19 Second World War live ammunitions on the Island.

“Police here at Tingoa Police Station confiscated the ammunitions on 2 November after they were discovered in the possession of a group of people who were driving around with them on the Island,” says Acting Provincial Police Commander, Renbel Province, Macfred Tesuatai.

As part of its operations to prevent crime within communities in around Honiara during the current political situation, the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) through its National Community Policing Unit continues to meet with community leaders to encourage them to work together with their members to maintain law and order during this current period.

Members of the public in Honiara including drivers and pedestrians have been advised to watch out for possible diversion of traffic on some of the roads in the center of the city as Police mount a major operation for the election of a new Prime Minister on Wednesday this week.
