The Honourable Prime Minister (PM) Mr. Jeremiah Manele has praised the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) and security partners for successful police operation for the National General Election 2024 (NGE 24) and Election of the Prime Minister recently.

In his remarks during the visit he said, “I am delighted to join you all this morning to recognize the sterling efforts and work of RSIPF as well as our Pacific Regional Partners in maintaining law and order during recent NGE 24 and the election of the Prime Minister.

While the whole of Honiara locked up with police presence during the election of the prime minister on 2 May 2024, Burns Creek community engaged in soccer and volleyball as part of community engagement of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF).

The National Crime Prevention Department of the RSIPF has engaged with the Burns Creek community to bring the youths both boys and girls in a seven a side soccer and volleyball.

The nationwide liquor ban for Solomon Islands enforced by the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) was lifted today 3 May 2024.

The RSIPF Deputy Commissioner (DC) National Security and Operation Support (NSOS) and the Overall Commander for the election of Prime Minister (PM) Mr. Ian Vaevaso said the liquor ban has now been lifted but police will continue with its security operation.

The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) is appealing to the social media users to stop inciting posts on Facebook.

The appeal came after some Facebook users posted some hateful and inflammatory posts that were going viral targeting certain people and Provinces after the election of Prime Minister on 2 May 2024.

The RSIPF Commissioner Mr. Mangau made this appeal to those people who used fake Facebook accounts to stop doing that. Sharing and screen shots of those inciting posts should be stopped.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ian Vaevaso would like to inform the general public that there will be no curfew on the election of the new Prime Minister on 2 May 2024 as speculated on social media.

Operation Commander, Deputy Commissioner (DC) National Security and Operation Support Mr. Vaevaso said it advisable to be prepared should police issue any instruction for possible curfew.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and the Solomons' International Assistance Force (SIAF) are bolstering their security operations in Honiara ahead of tomorrow's (2 May) Prime Ministerial election.

The RSIPF and SIAF are deploying an array of measures to ensure the safety and security of Honiara residents and properties.

RSIPF and SIAF officers have increased their foot and vehicle patrols throughout Honiara. This is to maintain Police high visibility and provide immediate assistance if required.

The National Parliament of Solomon Islands will be closed for public access during the Election of Prime Minister while police will step up security in and around the Parliament area during Election of the Prime Minister on 2 May 2024.

Acting (Ag) Clerk of the National Parliament of Solomon Islands Mr. Jefferson Hallu clarifies the election of the Prime Minister is not a parliamentary meeting, although it is conducted on the floor of Parliament. The Constitution defines it as ‘a meeting of members’ (See Schedule 2 of the Constitution).

The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) have met with community leaders in Honiara as part of community engagement in preparation for the election of the prime minister.

The meeting was conducted today (29 April 2024) at Rove police club with leaders from East Honiara, Central Honiara and West Honiara. The leaders attended the meeting with representatives from churches, communities, women’s group and youths.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) wishes to inform the public that the liquor ban, initially imposed from April 16th to April 26th, has been extended.

The new liquor ban order is effective as of 26 April to 15 May 2024. The Liquor Ban Order 2024 was enacted by the then caretaker Minister for Home Affairs, Christopher Laore, under section 82(1) of the Liquor Act (Cap.144).
