Police in Guadalcanal Province are searching for a 17-year-old male student who has been missing since Friday 25 August 2017.

The matter was only reported to the Police this morning.

The missing person is from a village on Central Guadalcanal but attends one of the secondary schools in Honiara.

He was last seen at the school on Friday afternoon with his friends. His relatives contacted family members during the weekend but were not able to find him. They only reported the matter to the Guadalcanal Police today.

RSIPF officers in Guadalcanal Province in conjunction with the Immigration Department on 22 August raided and confiscated varieties of liquor worth about $34,000.00 from a business premise in the Henderson area, East of Honiara.

A 29-year Bangladesh national has been arrested on allegation of illegal sale of liquor. The Bangladesh national is also alleged to have breached his visa conditions.

It is also being alleged that the location of the business is not the one stated on the business licence.

RSIPF officers in Guadalcanal Province have arrested five female suspects recently for the alleged attack on an 18-year old girl at Matepono, North Guadalcanal.

The five females allegedly attacked the victim after her boyfriend invited her to meet him at a location at Matepono.

Provincial Police Commander, Guadalcanal Province, Nixon Manetoga says, “It’s believed that the incident came out of a boy and girl relationship.”

The five female suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue into the incident.

RSIPF Commissioner Matthew Varley, Deputy Commissioner Gabriel Manelusi and Chief of Staff Evelyn Thugea are in Guam this week to participate in the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) Conference.

Chief Joseph Cruz of the Guam Police Department hosted today's opening ceremony. The conference has brought together chiefs and commissioners of police from almost 20 countries across the Pacific.

RSIPF Commissioner Matthew Varley today met with the Secretary-General of Interpol, Mr Jurgen Stock at the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police Conference in Guam.

INTERPOL is the international police organisation designed to promote police cooperation against global crime. More than 190 countries are members of INTERPOL and currently Solomon Islands has submitted an application to join.

It is anticipated that the RSIPF application for membership will be considered by the INTERPOL General Assembly in Beijing in late September.

Police in the Choiseul Province are investigating a serious logging accident at the Suri logging camp in East Choiseul last Friday 25 August 2017 during which a log fell and broke the chainsaw operator’s right leg.

Police in Taro became aware of the accident when the male person was brought to the Taro hospital during the weekend. He has since been transferred to the National Referral Hospital in Honiara given the seriousness of his injury.

Motorists in Honiara are requested to take precautions while travelling in the vicinity of the main Mataniko Bridge this Sunday 27 August as there will be a thermal fogging treatment in the area as from 6 am in the morning.

The thermal fogging treatment has been requested by the Management of the Kitano Construction to treat the high level of mosquito infestation in and around it’s worksite near the Mataniko Bridge.

The RSIPF has been made aware of a serious complaint against a police officer in Malaita. It has been alleged that a police officer was drunk in full uniform when he disturbed a family at a village in East Kwaio early this week.

"The RSIPF has been made aware of this serious complain. We are taking the complaint seriously and the matter is currently being investigated by the Provincial Police Commander, Malaita Province and our Professional Standards and Internal Investigations," says Commissioner, Matthew Varley.

Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police will be briefed on the RSIPF’s Crime Prevention Strategy during their 46th Conference which will be held in Guam 28 – 31 August 2017.

Commissioner, Matthew Varley and Deputy Commissioner, Operations, Gabriel Manelusi will represent the RSIPF at the meeting.

“This year’s conference with the theme of “Pacific Islands Together” is an opportunity for police chiefs around the region to come together and share ideas and programs we are working on and best practice,” says Commissioner Varley

A female officer of the RSIPF will lead the second group of officers from the Force to be deployed to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan in Africa.

“Eight RSIPF officers are now ready to be deployed to the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur. They have met all the pre-qualifications and training and medical checks and their files are already with the UN. We are waiting for instructions from the UN on when they will be deployed to Sudan,” says Commissioner, Matthew Varley.
