Police will mount a high level Operation right across Solomon Islands during this New Year’s Eve to ensure that communities celebrate peacefully with their families and friends.

Traffic officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force will be conducting traffic checks during this Christmas season at different locations in town and parts of Guadalcanal jurisdiction.

The check will be conducted for unlicensed vehicles, driver licences, third party documents and Random Breathalyser Testing (RBT).

Director Kukum Traffic, Inspector Charles Habatia said, “The total number of RBT cases from 3rd July to second week of December 2016 was at 165, most of which have already been to court and others are still waiting for their hearings”.

On Tuesday 6 December 2016 The RSIPF Fraud Squad arrested and charged a XX year old male person who was formerly Financial Controller for the Ministry of Health and Medical Services with 15 counts of False Pretence as codified in section 308(a) of the Solomon Islands Penal Code.

The charges stem from a complex and extended multi-agency investigation into inflated freighting transactions and a phantom Shipping and Charter service that allegedly provided services to the Department of Health and Medical Services.

A male, 66 year old has been arrested this date for possession of child exploitation material. The investigation by the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF), Sexual Assault Unit remains ongoing and other charges are being considered. This investigation commenced as a result of information supplied to police by a member of the community.

Legislative amendments enacted earlier this year details offences with severe penalties for making, possession, and or distribution of child exploitation material.

Police recovered a total huge amount of money from an alleged suspect of robbery at the Solomon Islands Public Employees Union (SIPEU) at the town ground office yesterday morning.

The recovery of the cash comes when the alleged suspect was arrested at Mbokona yesterday with the assistance of the Town Council Law Enforcement Officers of the Honiara City Council when they teamed up with the Police.

Small amount of money was not recovered but police will work on it through the investigation to recover that amount of money.

The National Community Policing Team within the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) conducted awareness talks in line with the 16 days campaign against violence against women in several communities on Savo island in the Central Islands Province from 5 - 6 December 2016.

The awareness talks were conducted at Kalaka Community High School and Kuila, Sisiaka, Mbalola, Panueli and Pokilo villages. Most of the communities are on north Savo except for Kalaka which is in south Savo.

Two weeks of intensive training on Command, Control and Coordination (C3) and Incident Command & Control System (ICCS), will conclude today at Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara, Solomon Islands.

The training was facilitated by an expert from Australia on C3 and ICCS with the assistance of the Participating Police Force (PPF) and the Police Academy in collaboration with National Emergency Management and Special Event Planning (NEMSEP).

Members of the RSIPF and the Ministry of Finance & Treasury executed search warrants at the Honiara office of the Inland Revenue Division (IRD) where an IRD employee was arrested and charged with corruption.

It is alleged that the IRD Officer has received payments for unlawfully remitting a company’s tax liabilities.

This is the second arrest by Task Force Janus since its inception as it continues to investigate and prosecute those involved in fraudulent offending.
