Police has commenced its community engagement program since 3 February 2019 as a lead up to the National General Election (NGE) on 3 April 2019.

Supervising Commissioner Gabriel Manelusi says, “The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has commenced its community engagement program since 3 February 2019 as a lead up to the NGE on 3 April 2019.”

“The engagement program is being rolled out in the provinces and as well as in Honiara. The aim of the program is working together for a peaceful election, promoting the right to vote, eligibility age of a person to vote, awareness on corruption practices by any intending candidate or agents to contest the election, and police roles during the election,” says Supervising Manelusi.

He says, “Senior police officers from the rank of Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner will travel to the provinces to give assurance to officers there and communities, that the RSIPF Executive is supporting the Police-Community Engagement Program.”

Mr Manelusi appeals to the general public to support this NGE program as RSIPF officers are implementing it as a way to educate people to ensure there is a peaceful election outcome.

Officers of the National Crime Prevention Department in Honiara have started visiting communities in and around the capital, market places and churches to brief the public of the responsibilities of the RSIPF as well as the responsibilities of the public in the NGE 2019.
