RSIPF implement plans to boost communication during NGE 2019
The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is implementing plans to boost its communication coverage to all provinces as it prepares for the National General Election (NGE) on 3 April 2019.
Assistant Commissioner (AC) National Capital and Crime Prevention says, “My committee that oversees operations and communications in the planning for the RSIPF operation during the NGE looked at options to ensure RSIPF is able to communicate with at least 80 to 90 percent of the provinces from the base in Honiara.”
AC Pogeava says, “Our islands are scattered and some places are so remote which is a challenge for the RSIPF in terms of policing. But we have to try as much as possible to address this challenge. It is important that we are able to reach most if not all of the provinces.”
He explains: “As a means to address this challenge RSIPF has just purchased some Codan High Frequency (HF) radios for the provincial stations that are without communication and also conducted maintenance to the existing communication system. The installation of the Codan radios started last week at the Rove Police Headquarters, and it will slowly move to the provincial stations.”
“This work is expected to be completed by mid-March and the remaining weeks before polling day on 3 April we will allow the Communication team to ensure other minor tasks are finalised and the system is working.”
AC Pogeava adds: “We have other forms or mode of communication that will be used during the NGE such as telephone, faxes, mobile phones, emails and SMS text. We are currently working very closely with Solomon Telekom on other products that they have available to ensure we are able to stay in touch with our stations which are spread throughout the country.”
