RSIPF Commissioner reminds senior officers of their role in NGE

Commissioner Varley addresses PPCs, Directors and other guests during the opening of the Conference

Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), Matthew Varley has called for trust, responsibility and accountability from senior officers of the Force as security preparations for the National General Election (NGE) on 3 April 2019 are being finalised.

Provincial Police Commanders and departmental directors of the RSIPF are in Honiara this week to finalise provincial operations plans that will form part of the overall Operational Order to ensure a safe and free National General Election.

“I ask you to think about the roles you play as senior leaders in the RSIPF. As members of the Executive you are the ears and eyes of the organisation. I want you to take your responsibilities very seriously,” says Commissioner Varley.

He emphasises: “As we prepare for the National General Election I want you to focus on three things –

trust, responsibility and accountability.

I want you develop trust from our people, stakeholders and from each other. This can be achieved through the work we do and how we interact with people. But remember, we are police officers, and we should not involve in any politics.”

“I trust you to do your part to make a difference to ensure we have the trust of the people we serve, to ensure there is a peaceful election,” says Commissioner Varley.

He adds: “The world, the region and our people will be watching us during this coming election with the expectation that we will perform beyond reproach, display the high standards of discipline and discharge our duties faithfully and with honour.”

“Let us have a responsibility for the safety of our people. Let us serve the government of the day, and enforce the laws of the country honestly, faithfully and diligently without favour or affection, malice or ill-will towards any person,” says Commissioner Varley.

He reminded the PPC and departmental directors: “Let us be accountable to the oath we took to enforce the laws of this country. Let us be accountable to the agreement we make with our stakeholders, work-partners and friends who offered to support us during the National General Election to ensure a better outcome in the coming election.”

The PPCs and departmental directors’ conference will end this Friday 22 February with the finalisation of provincial operation plans that will be included in the final RSIPF NGE 2019 Operation Order.
