RSIPF visit school to talk about Electoral Act and other offences
More than 300 male students at the Saint Nicholas College in Honiara had the opportunity to hear about the responsibilities of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and that of the public and registered voters in the National General Election (NGE) when a team from National Crime Prevention Department visited the School on 21 February 2019.
The NGE will be held on 3 April 2019.
The team from the National Crime Prevention Department also spoke to the primary and secondary students on other issues including sexual offences, alcohol related offences, kwaso, dangerous drugs such as marijuana, common nuisance, the offences and penalties in the Electoral Act and other antisocial behaviours.
Speaking to the students, Staff Sergeant (SSgt) Vivian Foanaota says, “As students you play a very important role in our communities. You have responsibilities at home as a son, in school as a student and in our country as a citizen.”
She adds: “Today we are here to share with you some of offences that if you commit and are found guilty you will be sentenced to prison or fined by our courts. And as leaders of tomorrow you need to be aware of these issues. This includes offences in the Electoral Act which attracts some very stiff penalties. Please share this information with your parents and other members of your community.”
“I urge you to be responsible students and be law abiding citizens. If you involve your selves in criminal activities, you will face the consequences. But if you choose to be a law abiding citizen, you will find yourselves living in a much better society,” says SSgt Foanaota
During the awareness, the students were given time to ask questions and made comments. The National Crime Prevention Department team will return to Saint Nicholas College today (22 February 2019) to talk with the female students at the School.
