Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Central Province have been able to improve their skills in the areas of crime scene basic examination and fingerprinting during a training held at Tulagi on 26 February 2019.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Inspector Hugo Maelasi says, “The training program is to equip my officers in the field of forensics in preparation for the National General Election (NGE) scheduled for 3 April 2019.”

PPC Maelasi explains, “The Forensic training was conducted by Forensic officers from the Rove Police Headquarters. I am so fortunate that these two officers from the Forensic Unit were able to come across to Tulagi to deliver the one day training.”

Inspector Maelasi says, “The training package delivered is more advanced and this is important for my officers so they are able to use the new knowledge received in their daily investigation duties. After this training my officers are ready to attend any crime scene related to the NGE Operation.”

The training dwelt on crime scene examination, taking sketch plans, exhibits management and getting information when attending a crime scene.

“The training concluded with the presentation of a forensic kit for the Tulagi Police Station as a backup resource for my investigators here,” says PPC Maelasi.

The RSIPF Forensic Unit plans to deliver the same training to officers in other police stations throughout the country. So far the training has been delivered to officers in Gizo, Auki, Henderson, Tulagi and Kirakira. The plan is to cover all the provinces before the end of March 2019.
