Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) today (3 April 2019) visited several polling stations in Honiara to meet and talk with members of the public to ensure they felt safe and secure while casting their ballots.

Commissioner Varley was welcomed by smiles and greetings from the members of the public.

“My intention of the visit to the various polling stations is to reassure people of Honiara and the rest of the country that the security is under control and that they should not have any fear while casting their votes. RSIPF is here to ensure a peaceful environment on the Election Day,” says Commissioner Varley.

A voter, Mr Arnold Ledi who was casting his vote at White River Polling Station when Commissioner visited says, “I am happy to cast my ballot paper today at a very safe and secure polling station. It is so good to see Police and Correctional officers out here to ensure that we cast our votes in a safe and secure environment. Today is much better than previous polling days. ”

“I want to thank all the RSIPF officers in reaching out to our people, not only here in the capital but also in the provinces, conducting awareness programs for a safe and secure NGE. As the result, our people came out today with a respectful and peaceful behaviour,” Mr Ledi told a RSIPF Media Officer who accompanied the Commissioner on his tour of the polling stations in Honiara

“I want to thank you for your hard work and I would like to see more awareness programs in our communities in the future.”

At the same polling station at White River Ms Wendy Furai of Wind Valley says, “Today is a peaceful polling day in our community. There is no row between supporters and most people cast their votes happily. For me, today I really enjoyed the atmosphere. It is heart-warming to see people going around smiling, greeting each other in a more respectful way. Everybody moves around freely.”

Commissioner Varley visited polling stations at Henderson, Panatina School, Marine School, Honiara High School, Mbokonavera School, Bishop Epalle, and the White River Polling Station.

“I appeal to the good citizens of this country to continue to work with your police to ensure that the days leading up to the announcement of the polling is peaceful. Keep up the good spirit and let us continue to work together,” says Commissioner Varley.
