The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) says the National General Election (NGE) 2019 security updates helps in the planning and directing appropriate action for any given situation as counting of ballot papers started today 4 April 2019.

Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Matthew Varley says, “The NGE 2019 security updates that are provided daily by the Police Forward Command Posts (PFCP) in the provincial capitals and members of the community through the Police Communication Centre (PCC) in Honiara helps the committee comprising RSIPF senior officers, Solomon Islands Police Development Program (SIPDP), Solomon Islands Police Support Program and the Combine Task Group (CTG) in planning and directing appropriate action for any given situation as counting of ballot papers starts today, 4 April 2019 and the election of a new Prime Minister in coming weeks.”

“I would like to acknowledge the outstanding performance and well prepared planning for the NGE19 operation,” says Commissioner Varley in his address to the respective Commanders of the NGE Operation.

He adds: “During my visitation to the polling stations yesterday 3 April the stations were calm and safe. Feedback from the public via the various media platforms is positive about the RSIPF.”

“I am thankful for the active provision of situation reports by PFCPs that are provided regularly to the Police Operation Centre (POC). I encourage the general public to continue show the good well behaviour shown yesterday during. At the same time I appeal to general public and communities across the country to respect each other in whatever you do and to assist your police with information about any possible risks and threats that may undermine the process of the NGE,” says Commissioner Varley.

He adds: “This is a remarkable swift in the professionalism of the RSIPF during the NGE19. We must be proud and thank God for His blessing for a peaceful polling yesterday. We must work together for a peaceful election through the sharing of information with your police and to each other as counting of ballot papers continues as well as the election of a new Prime Minister.”
