Five male arrested in Auki for consumption of kwaso in public place
Police in Auki, Malaita Province have arrested five male persons for allegations of consumption of liquor in a public place on 4 April 2019 in Auki.
Chief Superintendent Alfred Uiga, who is the overall commander for the NGE in Malaita Province says, “This morning Police in Auki received a report from members of the public that there were some male persons drinking kwaso at the Auki Market.”
“Upon receiving the report Police responded and arrested five male persons aged between 20 to 25 years-old and currently they are in Police custody for further dealings.”
PPC Uiga emphasises: “I want to remind the public that police will not tolerate such behaviours. Any one committing these offences will be arrested and dealt with.”
“I would like to thank members of the community for working together with your police to make this event crime free. It is also a good sign that people are working together with the police.”
“I appeal to members of the community to report any activities of kwaso, whether distilling, sale or consumption in public places to your police. Not only that but also those who are selling alcohol illegally.”

A nation-wide liquor ban is in place until 6 April 2019.
