Drivers warned for prosecution during NGE traffic operation in Honiara
Traffic officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have arrested five vehicle drivers during a traffic operation conducted opposite the St. John Community High School in West Honiara today (5 April 2019).
Deputy Director, Kukum Traffic, Inspector Brian Surimalefo says, “The vehicle drivers were arrested and warned for prosecution for; driving unlicensed motor vehicle, permitting unlicensed motor vehicle, permitting unlicensed driver and driving without a valid driver’s license.”
Inspector Surimalefo adds: “A total of eighteen vehicles drivers were tested with the Random Breath Test (RBT) and all the drivers passed with no alcohol detected in their blood.”
He says, “The purpose of the traffic check is to ensure there is peace and road safety is observed on our roads while the National General Election process continues especially in Honiara.
“Police will not tolerate anyone who violates the Traffic Act and regulations. Police will take stern action on those who breach the traffic rules. This includes those who intend to conduct victory float parades to celebrate their winning candidates.”
The vehicle drivers arrested are on bail to appear at the Honiara Central Magistrates Court on 23 April 2019.
