The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) reminds members of the public that despite the lifting of the Liquor Ban its officers will ensure that licensed premises observe their opening hours and that members of the public consume alcohol responsibly.

“Police officers will continue to mount visibility patrols in Honiara city and the provincial capitals to ensure that licensed premises close on time and they do not sell alcohol to underage customers. Police will also crack down on members of the public consuming alcohol in public places,” says Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Joseph Manelugu who is current Commander of the National General Election Police Operation Centre (POC).

ACP Manelugu adds: “RSIPF Traffic officers will also continue to conduct vehicle checks on roads in Honiara including Random Breathe Tests (RBT) to ensure our roads are safe for the general public. Remember, do not drink and drive.”

“Police in Honiara will continue to check on some key areas in and around the city to make sure law and order is maintained including the illegal brewing and consumption of any illegal substance including kwaso. These substances are the cause of violence in our communities. The police will take stern action on anyone who is involved in the manufacture and sale of such substances,” ACP Manelugu emphasises.

He says, “Let us create a peaceful environment for our newly elected Members of Parliament to discuss the future of our country including electing a new Prime Minister and Government for our nation.”

“Let us respect whatever decision our leaders make for the future direction of our nation despite our different political affiliations. Violence will never take our nation forward,” say ACP Manelugu.
