Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Western Province are investigating a fire at Veneer factory (a timber yard) in the Arara area, close to Munda in Western Province. The fire is reported to have occurred around midday on Tuesday 16 April 2019.

Provincial Police Commander, Western Province Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu says, “Three police officers from Munda Police Station were deployed to the location to investigate the fire. Initial investigation by police reveal the fire was caused by accident but this will need to be confirmed through further investigation.”

“I appeal to anyone in the Arara area to come forward to police with any information that may assist with the investigation into the incident,” says PPC Lenialu.

The factory is believed to be operated by a Chinese businessman in the Western Province.
