Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Henderson Police Station are investigating the burning of a building in the Doma area, North West Guadalcanal on 9 April 2019.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Guadalcanal Province, Chief Superintendent Evelyn Thugea says, “My officers attended a report of a 28-year-old male person on 15 April 2019, who was allegedly armed with a bush knife in the Doma area in North West Guadalcanal.”

She adds: “On arrival at Doma, a witness identified the alleged man involved to my officers, but he was not armed with a knife. Officers learned that the man also burned a building on which a complaint was lodged to police. The man was invited to the Henderson Police Station during which police learned he is allegedly of unsound mind but this is yet to be verified by medical authorities.”

“Our investigation is continuing as the matter of burning a building without the consent of the owner is a serious allegation. The maximum penalty if found guilty is life imprisonment,” PPC Thugea warns.

Police appeal to members of the public in the Doma area where the incident occurred to come forward with any information they may have to assist with this investigation.
