Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Henderson Police Station are investigating a report which alleges that a witness to a case involving a Member of Parliament that is before the Honiara Central Magistrates Court is being threatened by supporters of the MP.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) for Guadalcanal Province, Chief Superintendent Evelyn Thugea says,

“Officers at Henderson Police Station were informed by a prosecutor, that a witness to a case involving a Member of Parliament which is currently before the Honiara Central Magistrates Court has been allegedly threatened by supporters of the MP.”

PPC Thugea adds: “We are taking the allegation very seriously as it involves a witness in a matter before the Court. Witnesses to matters before the courts should not be interfered with or threatened. I have instructed my investigators to properly conduct an inquiry into the matter and if there is sufficient evidence then the people involved in the threats will be taken before the Court.”

“I appeal to the good people of Guadalcanal Province to respect each other, as it is an offence to threaten any person or interfere of a witness of a case before court process,” says PPC Thugea.
