RSIPF boost traffic checks in preparation for the election of new PM

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Kukum Traffic Centre in Honiara are increasing traffic checks on the capital’s roads as part of the operation for the election of a new Prime Minister on 24 April 2019.

Deputy Director, Kukum Traffic Centre, Inspector Brian Surimalefo says, “Two hundred and one vehicles have been checked so far during the traffic operation conducted at different times and locations in Honiara. Nine drivers have been arrested for presence of alcohol in person’s blood.”

Inspector Surimalefo says, “Eight drivers were arrested for driving an unlicensed motor vehicle, two drivers arrested for driving without a license, a driver arrested for careless driving, one driver arrested for permitting unlicensed motor vehicle and a driver was arrested for permitting unlicensed driver.”

“The traffic operation has been mounted to ensure all vehicles on our roads must have valid vehicle licenses and drivers must have a driver’s license and third party insurance. Police want to ensure that all road users are safe when using our roads. We also want to crack down on drink driving because drivers are still ignoring the traffic safety awareness messages.”

“I must warn drivers and vehicle owners that police will not tolerate anyone who breach the traffic rules. We will deal with the offenders on the spot,”

Inspector Surimalefo emphasises.

All drivers dealt with have been bailed to appear in the Honiara Central Magistrates Court on 7 and 14 May 2019.
