Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have dealt with some incidents in Guadalcanal Province in lead up to the Easter festivities on 21 April 2019.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Guadalcanal Province, Chief Superintendent Evelyn Thugea says, “My officers and officers from Honiara and Rove Police Headquarters overnight and early hours of 19 April attended to a number of incidents.”

She adds: “During the night of 18 April, a combined police patrol comprising of officers of the Police Respond Team (PRT) stationed at the Rove Police Headquarters and my Police Respond Unit (PRU) follow up to an outstanding report of an alleged robbery at the Tasimboko area in North East Guadalcanal on 3 April 2019, which a car was allegedly robbed from the driver of the vehicle.”

The combined patrol team followed up on the information and located the car and arrested four suspects. The car was retrieved by the team and is now in the car of the police.

PPC Thugea says, “Also in the early hours of 18 April there was an alleged fight in the Tintinge area inland of Honiara City between supporters of two candidates who contested the National General Election on 3 April 2019 for the South Guadalcanal Constituency. Police followed up the report but the candidates agreed to settle the matter peacefully through a traditional settlement.”

The police also escorted a vehicle which was an unlicensed motor vehicle to Henderson Police Station in which the driver was dealt with and released on bail for a later court date.

Police also arrested a man at the Henderson Market for being in possession of the prepared rolls of the drug marijuanas.

PPC Thugea adds: “My PRU officers also attended a report at Tamboko Village in North West Guadalcanal that a medical ambulance was allegedly attacked with stones. This matter is still being investigated as the alleged attacker left the scene when police arrived at the Village. “

“I appeal to the good people of Guadalcanal Province to respect each other, resolve issues in an amicable way, refrain from unlawful activities, have time with your families and get involved in church activities especially during this Easter period,” says PPC Thugea.
