RSIPF arrest seven people for alleged drunk disorderly and brewing of kwaso in Central Guadalcanal

Police have arrested seven people at Moto Pool in the Henderson area of Central Guadalcanal for alleged drunk and disorderly and brewing of kwaso on the night of 17 April 2019.

Duty Commander at the Guadalcanal Provincial Police Forward Command Post, Superintendent Nixson Manetoga says, “On the night (17 April) officers of my Police Respond Unit (PRU) attended to a report and arrested six adult males for allegedly drunk and disorderly behaviour.”

“While the seventh suspect was a woman who was arrested for allegedly brewing kwaso for sale without approval from the Minister responsible to approve liquor licenses,” Superintendent Manetoga explains.

He emphasises: “Police will not tolerate any such behaviour of drunk and disorderly behaviour in public. At the same time, brewing alcohol for sale without an approval of the Minister is an offence. Police appeal to communities to assist report such incident.”

A number of containers believed to contain kwaso, bottles and a gas cylinder were seized by police as court exhibits in the case of the woman.

The kwaso seized were roughly around four- five thousand dollars if sold locally in the markets locally.

All seven accused have been charged and released on bail to appear before the Honiara Central Magistrates Court at a later date.
