RSIPF reminds public of new liquor ban order
The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) reminds the general public in Honiara City and Guadalcanal Province, that the Caretaker Minister of Home Affairs, Ishmael Avui has signed a new liquor ban order to be enforced from 23 - 25 April 2019.
The new Liquor Ban Order (N0.3) 2019, which was signed on 18 April by the Caretaker Minister for Home Affairs, is made under section 82 (1) of the Liquor Act (cap 144).
The Liquor Ban Order directs that:
All liquor licensed premises including bars, night clubs and bottle shops in Honiara and Guadalcanal Province must not sell liquor and must be closed on the following dates:
(i) 23 April 2019;
(ii) 24 April 2019;
(iii) 25 April 2019;
The Order does not apply to the sale or supply of liquor by a:
(i) Hotel to its bone fide guests accommodated at the hotel; or
(ii) Licensed restaurants where the sale or supply is accompanied by food;
The Order further states that liquor sold or supplied to hotel bone fide guests accommodated at the hotel or licensed restaurants where the sale and supply of liquor is accompanied by food must not be consumed or taken outside of hotel or licensed restaurant premises.
RSIPF appeals to members of the public in the areas the Order covers to take heed of this, as police will be enforcing it.
This Order is made to control the consumption and sale of liquor in Honiara City and Guadalcanal Province in the lead up to, during and after the election of a new Prime Minister on 24 April 2019.
