RSIPF and SIPCRRA Executive members call for a peaceful election of Prime Minister
The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and Solomon Islands Post Conflict Rehabilitation and Restoration Association (SIPCRRA) Executive members call on people of Malaita who reside in Honiara to respect the result of the election of a new Prime Minister (PM) on 24 April 2019.
The call has been made following a meeting between the RSIPF and SIPCRRA Executive members at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara today (22 April 2019).
General Secretary SIPCRRA, Mr Timothy Omani says, “The duty of voters to cast their ballots was done on 3 April 2019. Now it is the turn of the 50 Members of Parliament to vote for the Prime Minister and who should form the new government. We must accept the announcement of the Prime Minister with a good heart.”
Mr Omani says, “We must show some respect for one another which has always been part of our culture. We don’t want to repeat what happened in the past which destroyed our life and economic growth.”
He adds: “We will do what we can do to assist police through advocacy in our communities so our people can be aware of the readiness of the RSIPF to provide security for the election of a Prime Minister.”
RSIPF’s Deputy Commissioner (DC) Operations Gabriel Manelusi told the Malaita members of SIPCRRA: “This is our country and I need your strong support to prevent any possible issues that will bring us down during the election of our new Prime Minster. Thank you for the strong assurance during this important meeting.”
Mr Manelusi adds: “Your ideas and contributions during the meeting are very powerful and constructive. Your plans to advocate in your own community set up is a good strategy to diffuse any possible plan to disturb the election of a new PM on Wednesday this week.”
“Police will not tolerate anyone who takes the law in to their own hands if they are not satisfied with the announcement of a new PM. Stay away from large crowds and do not become involved in any unlawful protest, DC Manelusi emphasises.
