Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is concerned about people intending to hijack any potential protest around the High Court during the hearing of the civil case between Hon. Matthew Wale and Hon. Manasseh Sogavare today ( 2 May 2019).

Speaking at his weekly Media Conference today, Commissioner Varley says, “I am concerned that some people may be planning to hijack those potential protests around the High Court. There are some suggestion that people are planning to carry out further acts of public disorder across the city as a result of last week’s efforts by police and there are some reports that people are looking to carry out their acts of retaliation against police in relation to last week’s Police Operation.”

“I am very concerned about this as innocent people who could be affected by this possible criminal acts. Obviously we do not want to see any of this happen and we want to make sure that our streets, schools and businesses remain open,” Commissioner Varley emphasises.

He adds: “I want the public to be reassured that the RSIPF is well prepared to respond to any incident of public disorder occurring anywhere across the City over the next few days. The RSIPF is your Police we are here for your security and your safety.”

“Police will be mounting another high visibility security operation tonight, tomorrow and beyond to make sure that our streets remain calm and peaceful,” says Commissioner Varley.

“I’m calling on all community leaders to help us spread the message that there is no more need for protest on the streets. Those who want to cause harm and those who want to cause damage or destruction in our communities must not be allowed to do so. Let us work together to stop such illegal acts.”
