RSIPF arrests an adult male person on allegation of unlawful assembly

Investigators of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) arrested an adult male person in Honiara on 17 May 2019 on an allegation of unlawful assembly.

RSIPF Assistant Commissioner of Crime Intelligence, Ian Vaevaso says, “My investigators from the National Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) last Friday 17 May arrested an adult male person for unlawful assembly pursuant to section 74 of the Penal Code.”

AC Vaevaso explains: “The arrest came about following investigations carried regarding the disturbance on 24 April 2019 after the election of the Prime Minister when some angry people took to the streets of Honiara and involved in violence, attacking the RSIPF and Correctional Service Solomon Islands officers involved in the operation.”

“The man was released on bail to appear before the Honiara Central Magistrates Court on 22 May 2019,” says AC Vaevaso.

Investigation into the disturbance is continuing and members of the public are encouraged to provide any information to assist with this investigation.

Public can contact the Police Communication Centre (PCC) in Honiara on 23666 or the police free toll 999 if they wish to assist with information for the investigation regarding the disturbance on 24 April 2019 following the election of the Prime Minister in Honiara.
