An Adult man has been ordered to pay a total fine of $3,050 for multiple traffic charges at the Honiara Magistrate Courts on 22 May 2019.

The defendant was charged with three counts under the Road Transport Act, including presence of alcohol in person’s blood, driving unlicensed motor vehicle and driving uninsured motor vehicle.

Assistant Commissioner Crime and Intelligence, AC Ian Vaevaso warns, “Traffic offences carry hefty fines if found guilty.”

“Police will continue to arrest and prosecute those who are committing traffic offences and will not tolerate these kinds of unlawful behaviours.”

“Our message has always been clear, if you are going to drink alcohol do not drive, or assign someone to drive,” says AC Vaevaso.

He adds: “When people continue to commit traffic offences, our roads are no longer safe for all users. We will continue to work together with members of the community to curb this.”

The Court ordered the defendant to pay the total fine by 4 June 2019 or face three months’ imprisonment.
