Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Temotu Province last weekend arrested a male person in his 20s for allegedly producing homebrew at Malo Village on Santa Cruz Islands in the Temotu Province.

The arrest was conducted following a tip off from an informant that led the RSIPF officers at Lata to apprehend the youth for allegedly distilling the homebrew at one residence at Malo Village.”

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Temotu Province Superintendent James Toaki says, “My officers have arrested the alleged homebrew producer and brought him over for further processing with the homebrew as a court exhibit.”

PPC Toaki emphasises: “Restriction in making liquor is prohibited in law and any person found doing so can be arrested.”

He adds: “It has become obvious that youth between the ages of 16 to 20 years are very much involved in drinking alcohol these days. I just want to remind our good children and beer license holders that this is illegal under section 72 of liquor Act.”

PPC Toaki warns: “Production of liquor without approval from the Minister responsible, drinking beer in any license premises whilst under the age of 21 years or sending a person under the age of 21 years to purchase liquor are all an offence against the Liquor Act, and the police will not tolerate any person breaching the Act.”

PPC Toaki appeals to communities in Temotu Province to join hands and make the province a place for the investors to progress development for the socio-economic development and wellbeing of the people of Temotu province.

“Let’s make Temotu a place where it can be seen as safe, secure and peaceful to live and enjoy.”
