The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is continuing its investigation into the burning of two buildings at Tigoa, in West Rennell on the night of 25 July 2019

Commissioner of Police, Matthew Varley told local journalists who attended his weekly conference today: “A team of police investigators, officers of the Forensic department, and the Fire and Rescue Service in Honiara, who were deployed to Tigoa to assist my officers there with the investigation of the arson incident have returned to Honiara.”

“Our investigators are assessing the evidence collected during their investigation. So far a suspect has been identified but is yet to be arrested,” adds Commissioner Varley.

He says, “I appeal to the good people at Tigoa to assist my officers there to avoid any further escalation of the issue, but to provide any information about the incident. I urge people not to take the law into your own hands.”

Information can be passed to police officers at the Tigoa Police Station, while for those who may have witnessed the incident but have travelled after the incident to other parts of the country, you can call the Police National Communication in Honiara on phone 23666, or the free toll line 999.
