Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Temotu Province are investigating a vehicle accident at Nea Village on 31 July 2019 when a three-ton truck over turned after it experienced a mechanical problem.

It is alleged the vehicle with 20 passengers on board experienced a problem with its engine as it was driving up a small hill. The vehicle then rolled back and turned over. Six of the passengers were injured and taken to hospital for treatment

Officer in charge of traffic at the Lata Police Station, Police Constable Leonard Menateyi says, “When officers arrived at the scene of the accident the driver of the vehicle had already. He was located the next day and served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP).”

“The suspect is expected to be charged with several counts of contravening the Road and Traffic Regulations,” says Leonard Menateyi.

Provincial Police Commander Remote Province, Superintendent James Toaki warns, “Police will not tolerate any law breaker and will bring to justice anyone who breaks the laws of this country.”

PPC Toaki says, “I appeal to drivers and vehicle owners in Temotu Province to always adhere to the traffic regulations and rules and making sure that any person driving any vehicle must have a valid driving license, the vehicle is also licensed and insured. The vehicles must also be road worthy.”
