RSIPF arrests 47-year-old man in Western for death at logging camp
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have arrested a 47-year-old man last week in relation to the death of a 19-year-old girl in a logging Camp at Jericho, North New Georgia, Western Province.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) of Western Province, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu explains: “The death of the 19-year-old happened last month on 11 July 2019, which the body of the deceased was discovered inside her room on the morning of that day.”
He adds: “The matter was reported to my officers at Noro Police Station and the matter was jointly investigated by my officers and officers from the National Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) in Honiara, Rove.”
PPC Lenialu emphasises: “Over the period since the matter was reported to police, our investigation reveal the death was not a suicide incident but it appears to be a suspicious death, as from the medical evidence obtained after a post mortem was conducted on the body of the deceased.”
“There are also other avenues of suspicion which my investigators unveil but these are yet to be tested in court,” says PPC Lenialu.
The defendant was remanded in custody on a charge of murder in the Correctional Service Solomon Islands (CSSI) at Gizo since 8 August for his next appearance on 22 August 2019.
