Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Force (RSIPF) at Auki in Malaita Province are investigating the possible cause of a fire which burnt down the dining hall at the Aligegeo Provincial Secondary School in the early hours of today (23 August 2019).

RSIPF Operation Manger Malaita Province, Inspector Charles Edward Koto says, “Police here at Auki responded to a report about the fire which happened between 1 and 2 am this morning and managed to save the school kitchen while the dining hall was totally burned down.”

“We believe the report reached the police late so we were unable to save the dining hall but only managed to save the kitchen. The dining hall was already on fire when our officers reached the scene,” Inspector Koto explains

He adds: “We did all we can, with the help of the students at the School to try and save the dining hall but were unsuccessful. Luckily we were able to save the kitchen. I believe we could have saved the dining hall if we had received the report about the fire earlier.”

“I call on members of the public to call the police immediately when you see a fire before doing what you can to put the fire out,” Inspector Koto emphasizes.

Police calls on members of public to assist with information that might help with the investigation into the fire incident. Police at Auki can be contacted on phone 40132.
