Police arrest 41-year-old man for alleged domestic violence in Central Province
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Tulagi, Central Province have arrested a 41-year-old male person for allegedly assaulting his wife at their home village in Haroro, Sunfly on 19 August 2019.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Inspector Hugo Maelasi says, “Information obtained by the police so far alleged that the suspect was not happy with how his wife shared the meal for dinner so he then grabbed the pot of food and threw it away from the house. He then got hold of a big bush knife and started cutting their belongings.”
“The suspect allegedly pointed the bush knife at his wife and told her not to talk to him otherwise, he will cut her with the knife. He also allegedly threatened to burn down their house.”
PPC Maelasi says, “This is not first time the suspect had done to this to his wife. The victim sustained some injuries on her lips and had a swollen face as a result of the recent incident.”
The suspect was released on bail and will appear during the Tulagi Court circuit in September 2019.
“I want to advice all good citizens of Central Province not to take the law into your own hands. Domestic violence is a serious crime and Police will not tolerate anyone who commits domestic violence in our communities,” says PPC Maelasi.
